Ines Di Santo: Rocking the 2010 Runway

I’ve always been a huge fan of Ines di Santo—I love the lines and how the designs are bridal, without being overdone.  It is sexy bridal fashion made for real women that not only enhances woman’s curves, but also her inner confidence.  Here are some of my favorites from the 2010 Runway show:

Love the opulent detail and cut of the bodice.

This is definitely one of my favorites:  the colors, shirred fabrics and hem are divine!

I love how this design kicks it up a notch—adding the slimming shirred design with feathers and crystals.

This simpler empire cut with the ornamented pleats adds sophistication and understated elegance

Love the drop waist and full skirt on this gown!  The sheen of the fabric complements the extraordinary beading and cut of the bodice.

Once again, the designers take a simple design  (here, a mermaid gown) and make it exquisite with the addition of ivory lace  and pleats at the top of the bodice and bottom of the hem.

From the Runway to Your Wedding: Elie Saab

Elie Saab Spring Show 2009

Have you seen the new 2009 Elie Saab Spring Show?  I fell in love with Elie Saab when Halle Berry wore a couture design when she won her Oscar.  I was looking at the shots from the Spring 2009 show, and while the gowns are not for a wedding dress line, they could definitely pass for bridal chic.  The details were divine—with a little Japanese influenced obis to 3D appliques.  Here is a closer look of the images above:

I also loved these for mother of the bride/groom or bridesmaids dresses:

Gorgeous Bridal Hair Clips for Your Wedding

I just love the variety of hair ornaments that have made it to the scene recently.  Before, wedding barrettes were overdone and overstated.  Now, they can be so simple and really appeal to so many other brides and work with various hairstyles and lengths. Your barrette can add a subtle or shocking of touch of color, enhance or play down a dramatic makeup look.  It can also tie in a theme—a vintage, beach or modern design.

Southern Cocktails

One of the perks of a grand party is the food and drinks.  With a lot of destination weddings here on Jekyll Island, St.Simons Island and Savannah, I have found more brides and grooms wanting to incorporate the area’s rich Southern culture into their menus.  The fun part (read= my most favorite part) is the choosing the cocktails!  Adding playful touches and substitutions can make a signature drink reflective of your event and your personalities.

Mint julep :: Make It Fabuluxe: Make it mint julep martini by adding vanilla vodka and creme de menthe.  Garnish with green sugar and float a spring of mint at the top.

Frozen Peach Champagne Cocktails :: Make It Fabuluxe: Create designs inside each glass with raspberry syrup.

Mississippi Punch :: Make It Fabuluxe: Make it bubbly!  Add club soda to kick it up a notch.

Scarlett O’Hara :: Make It Fabuluxe:  Add a dash of Peach Schnapps to really bring out the Georgia goodness!

Whiskey Sour :: Make It Fabuluxe:  Turn your whiskey sours in to slushes for your hot outdoor southern wedding  by boiling lemonade and orange juice concentrate with 7 cups of water (double boiler) and 2 cups of sugar.   Once the sugar has dissolved, mix together with whiskey and freeze for two hours. Let stand for 30 min at room temperature and scoop into cocktail glass.

Milk Punch :: Make It Fabuluxe:  Serve with delectable cookies large enough to fit/sit on the rim of the highball glass.

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka :: This has become a hit at all Southern cocktail parties, since sweet tea is the official non-alcoholic beverage of the South.  Firefly is made with 70 proof vodka, which makes it easier and smoother than regular vodkas.  Make It Fabuluxe: Mix with lemonade to make an Arnold Palmer with a little more kick.

Do you have a favorite Southern cocktail of your own?  Tell us about it!

Definition: Ganache

ganache (uncountable)

  1. A rich creamy chocolate filling made of chocolate and cream, used for confections such as the filling of truffles.
  2. Heaven.

Ok, so I added #2, but it’s still true.  Ganache, while rich and not for the faint of heart, offers a delectable taste to your desserts. It can be used as a filling or or as a gloss like glaze for a cake.  Less cream means a firmer ganache which allows for more creative uses.  It really does complement other flavors like orange, strawberry and raspberry.

{Papier Tuesday} Gourmet Invitations

When I was blessed to attend and speak at Eventology, one of the sponsors was Gourmet Invitations. I was so impressed with place cards, escort cards and other materials Tifany contributed, I couldn’t wait to feature her for Papier Tuesday.  While looking for different sets to feature for this blog post, I was really impressed with the many ideas and styles that Gourmet Invitations offers. Be sure to check out the Gourmet Invitations Blog, as you will see that each set has its own individual story.  I loved reading each one, as it became apparent how the story influenced the concept of the design.  It was great to see how Tifany brought that out and truly made those ideas flow into the suites she created.

I love how Tifany’s creativity is never pigeon-holed into one particular design.  She is able to recreate the event vision through paper before your eyes and have it flow through out the entire invitation suite, menus, seating charts and other cards. From vintage to modern, romantic to energetic, there is no limit to what Gourmet Invitations can inspire.

Rehearsal Dinner Couture: Bollywood Bonfire

RDC: Bollywood Bonfire
RDC: Bollywood Bonfire – by fabuluxe on Polyvore.com

I am lucky enough to be in an area where our brides can have a choice of having their rehearsal dinner on either one of the islands.  Being able to capitalize on the sun kissing you good night on the night before your wedding is so romantic and a great way to get into the destination wedding spirit.  I loved the dramatic prints of this maxi dress, and when paired with the gold belt, it ultimately kicked it up a notch.  After all, we’re a chic, but cultural casual look.  I felt like the flowing nature of the fabric was quite fitting for the beach, while the interwoven design of both the cuff and earrings lent themselves to add more drama to the overall look.  Pulling your hair back like J.Lo is practical and sexy—the beach winds will blow your hair to shreds, but the style also allows your face to garner more attention.  Cue the gorgeous dangle earrings and a smoldering makeup palette and you’re fabulous.  One of my favorite things to purchase for vacation whenever Captain America and I travel are barefoot sandals, as seen above.  Heels will be pointless at the beach.  You could opt for really cute sandals, but more likely than not, they will be kicked off within the hour.  Barefoot sandals showcase your perfect pedicure, but also look great with a pair of flip flops.*** Don’t forget to add your favorite pashmina for when the evening begins to cool!***

Fabuluxe and Delicious: Sorbet Trios

As much as I am a fan of any creme brulee, my next favorite is sorbet.  While Yum Sugar says she tires of sorbet trios, I for one, cannot get enough.  Texture and flavor, as well as temperature make sorbet the fabulousness that it is.  Sorbet trios would make great welcoming treats at a cocktail hour or wonderful way to cool down after hot evening wedding.  As you can see above in the picture from Cannelle et Vanille , the colors are exquisite—all reflective of the hot colors of the season.

Incorporating the delicious flavors of your trios into your menu can be a wonderful way to enhance other flavors.  Think about expanding beyond the typical berry flavors—mix, garnish, add, and create frozen perfection of your own.  Here are some ideas to get your tastebuds going:

Think of different ways you can serve your trios:  all in the same cup or separately, as seen above.  Will you garnish with mint, edible flowers or sliced fruit?  The possibilities are not only endless, but also extremely delicious!
