We Likey: Bella Figura

We have always been huge fans of Bella Figura . It is something about their heavy papers, defined cuts and opulent fonts that just scream luxury!

The trendsetting company introduced 75 new dazzling invitation designs that are sure to be all the rage for the wedding season.  Their forecast:  Metallic pastels, die-cut shapes and custom calligraphy accents are essential for 2013 weddings.

So what’s new?

—  Die-cuts arrive. Die-cuts are an exciting new embellishment for 2013 –these sophisticated shapes instantly up the elegance factor on any invitation by adding soft curves or bold lines. Bella Figura can also create a distinctive, custom die-cut shape for any occasion for a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

—  New foil colors (including pastels!) Metallics were extremely popular in 2012, and with classic, glamorous weddings making a strong comeback, foil is a style that’s definitely here to stay. 7 new foil colors have been added to Bella Figura’s offerings, including sophisticated neutrals (like pearl, a soft white foil, and tawny, a beautiful taupe foil) as well as lovely pastels (mint! lilac! pink!). For couples looking to make
a statement, foil stamping looks breathtaking when paired with letterpress. And for those who aren’t ready to commit to a lot of shine, adding a foil edge to an invitation is a great way to embellish without going overboard.

—  10 custom calligraphy styles, including Callaway (a rich, formal hand by Sarah Hanna), as well as 6 whimsical styles from Bella Figura’s newest calligrapher, Elizabeth Hardin, are new for 2013. Bella Figura offers over 30 hand calligraphy styles from 7 of the nation’s top calligraphers.

—  Incorporate local touches with new maps and cityscapes. Turn a cityscape or vintage map of a wedding location (or any location!) into a custom envelope liner. Bella Figura’s designers can also create custom maps that coordinate with an invitation design.

—  Create colorful envelope liners with your favorite hues. Introduce more colors to an invitation suite with Bella Figura’s new patterned envelope liners. Choose a combination of colors from Bella Figura’s 60+ inks, then choose from over 40 patterns to create a vibrant envelope liner. Patterned envelope liners from Bella Figura are 100% post-consumer waste recycled and FSC-certified. The line also carries a variety of FSC-certified metallic envelope liners and eco colored envelopes.

Fashion Monday: Sneak Peek into RIVINI 2014

Rita Vinieris has to be one of my favorite designers for her creativity and passion she pours into every gown.  They are so realistic, but also add a touch of fantasy that makes any woman feel like a million dollars.  As Bridal Week ramps up, Rita has created the Return to Paradise–  a theme of this season’s collection inspired by one of our favorite places– the Riviera Maya.  Rita said:

“I was inspired by my recent Holiday to the Riviera Maya and a walk I had taken with my family on the beach.

We found so many wonderful seashells of the most incredible shades of coral, sand and mother of pearl.
These beautiful souvenirs have graced the corner of my deck, reminding me everyday of the sunlight on my face and the warmth I felt being surrounded by the ones I love.
It is that feeling I wish to share with brides wearing my collection.”

Here are the sketches of Rita’s inspiration. I cannot wait to see them in person!

Great Gatsby Wedding Inspiration

With Leonardo DiCaprio’s new Great Gatsby movie coming soon in theaters and Boardwalk Empire still going strong, you can expect to see a lot of Roaring ’20s inspired weddings coming up this year.   Translating this age of indulgence and decadence into a design offers you many options to make your event unique and fun.

Wedding Gown

These gowns from Cymbeline are absolutely to die for.  While being a glamorous homage to this era, it still embraces some of the modern lines of contemporary fashion.

The Wedding Cake

I love these art deco style wedding cakes!  I love the use of color, metal tones and bling that make it a bit more modern.

The Experience

The  theme is the overall concept or inspiration for your event. Making it come to life is the experience.  With period piece themes, you actually want to transport your guests into that era through decor, music and lighting.  This is experience can be really easy to duplicate with simple, quality linens in simple colors.  Feather centerpieces would make a wonderful addition to any table, including cocktail tables as they add drama and glamour.  Crystal or tinsel-type curtains do the same to cordon off areas.  Don’t like feathers? Consider leafy palms or clusters of orchids in tall containers.

Naturally, A central point of a 20s speakeasy was the bar.  Here are some fun ways to customize yours to tie in with the experience:

Vintage Speakeasy Menu

Create vintage style poster of available drinks, as seen above.  Include your wedding date, names and any funny stories about the drinks and what they mean to you. It makes a great conversation starter as guests are waiting in line or enjoying the cocktail hour.

Great Gatsby Speakeasy Bar Inspiration for Wedding Have your bar go vintage! Stage a few prohibition style boxes or crates on or behind the bar full of dark bottles and jugs.  Pair them with custom vintage labeled bottles and  mix and match  jars for an authentic feel.

Celebrity Fête: Preston Bailey’s Wedding

Preston Bailey Wedding

The guru of wedding design, Preston Bailey, tied the knot last week at midnight in New York’s iconic Empire State Building. Preston’s weddings are always seen as effortless, fashionable and over the top. It is absolutely no wonder that is very own wedding turned out to be the same way.

King Kong Floral StatuePreston Bailey Wedding Getting married at the Empire State Building alone is bragworthy, but what would the New York landmark be without its partner in crime, King Kong? Known for his large floral arrangements of animals and other natural elements, this particular beauty was there to greet guests as they entered the wedding. Not to be outdone by one of his fabulous creations, when it was time to come down the aisle, Preston emerged from what appeared to be a 12 foot bride drenched in orchids and a Reem Acra gown, donning a dapper black tuxedo and carrying a white bouquet.

All white ceremony draped with florals
The ceremony altar as quite regal, with clusters of hanging flowers and crystals. The chair covers gave the same lush look as the florals that were the focal point of the ceremony, tying the look all together. The ceremony altar itself, was draped as guests arrived, to add to the mystery of the affair.

Wedding Cocktail Hour Decor
One thing you could tell, by both the set up and decor, was that preston and Theo wanted their wedding to be gorgeous, but also fun and personal. The hallways and rooms had hanging crystals and beautiful shades of purple florals, but also their favorite images of attending guests.

Gold Hanging Boxes of Chocolates as Wedding FavorsPink centerpieces for cocktail tables
As favors, the couple hung gold boxes from a gold tree of gourmet chocolates. As opposed to having a sit down dinner, they opted for a cocktail party full of delicious fare, including an after-party with breakfast finger foods. As it was a cocktail party, there was no formal seating. Instead, there were high top tables with Chiavari stools and gorgeous cascading arrangements.

Reception Menu for Food
In addition to great entertainment and décor, food makes the party. Playing on famous pairs, their delightfully designed menu (in both the culinary and artistic sense) consisted of what we call “small plates”. These little, but savory, bites are perfect for you to get creative for your cocktail hour or party.

Pink Lighting for Wedding Reception
It was definitely a party atmosphere with a pink wash thrown over the room with speciality lighting. As a special touch, the dance floor displayed orchids, mimicking the floral details of the wedding.

We Likey: The Paris Wedding

The Paris Wedding Book by Kim Petyt

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been in love with all things French– especially Paris. This love has been passed down to my own little girl, who collects Eiffel Towers, had a Parisian birthday party, and knows possibly every fashion house in Paris. It is absolutely no wonder that when I began my business and met the beautiful soul, Kimberly Petyt of Parisian Events, I was completely enamored.

An American transplant in Paris, Kim has created a world-renowned wedding company that specializes and caters to Americans getting married in Paris. Her acute eye for design, effervescent personality and unparalleled drive for service mas made her a favorite and must-have for those getting married abroad.

getting married in paris inspiration

Kim has now taken the next logical step– sharing her expertise, love for her work and the beauty of her couples in a book entitled, Paris Wedding . The Paris Wedding, which will be released this coming April, is a full-color, idea-packed, “go-to guide” for globally minded trendsetters who are in love with the style and romance of Paris. Half of the book focuses on the logistical “nitty-gritty” behind planning a wedding in Paris (but also includes plenty of gorgeous Real Parisian Wedding eye-candy). The other half is geared towards brides who want to plan a Parisian-INSPIRED wedding in their own hometown, and includes stylized photo shoots (shot on location, naturally!) as well as chapters on things like lingerie, wedding gown and shoe shopping in Paris, and resources for finding French touches like macarons and croquembouche in cities all over the world.

If you are going to Paris to marry or are strongly leaning towards a Paris styled event in your area, I truly cannot think of a better resource, guide and expert to assist you than Kim and her new book!

P.S.– Also check out her awesome blog, Parisian Party: Tales of an American Wedding Planner in Paris for more inspiration!

Great Guestbook Ideas and Alternatives

Guestbook Wine Bottle for Weddings

Ready to ditch the traditional “sign in” type guestbooks for your wedding?  Looking for something more meaningful and aesthetic for your home?  Here are some outstanding options!

In addition to the wine guestbook bottles featured above or vintage postcards in an antique suitcase, where guests sign their name to specifically numbered bottles to be opened on your anniversaries, there are other many non-traditional (read: boring) ways of commemorating your guests’ attendance and affection for you on your special day.

Notes and Polaroids

polaroid and notes for guestbook wedding

Create a scrapbook with small envelopes, where guests can leave notes on cards for you to open after your honeymoon.  Another fun way is to have your guests take polaroid pictures where they can snap a photo at a designated area, leave a sweet message and post it in your book.

wedding monogram and thumbprint trees for guestbook at weddings

Looking for something to display in your home?  These beautiful wooden monograms and guestbook trees are amazing conversation and decor pieces for your home.  Other great home decor ideas are the jars of stones where guests can write their names or messages on them.  Signed paper with decal numbers of your wedding day would look beautiful framed in your foyer or hallways.  If you’re the rustic type, a wooden slab  will look great perched on a shelf or on your mantle.

guestbook alternatives

Have a favorite hobby you love to do together?  Get a commemorative piece that guests can sign for you to display in your home.  This always makes a welcome addition to your home and will be far more revered than a book that will collect dust.
Unique Guestbook Ideas for Weddings

Hopefully these great ideas will inspire you to do something truly unique for your guestbook!
