What’s Your Bridal Style? Bridal Style Quiz & Tips for Every Bride-to-Be

Wedding planning can be fun, but overwhelming.  There is no doubt that one can go into overload with details and ideas throughout the course of your planning.  At times, it can be easy to veer off of your path.  Luxury wedding expert, Nadia Digilov of Celebrating in Style has come up with this fantastic quiz to help you hone in on your event vision and style.  Here’s an example of one of the quizzes to help you focus on your event vision:

Which if the below accessories are you most likely to be seen in on a regular day:

A) A floral necklace
B) A bold statement bracelet
C) Flip-Flop shoes
D) A unique hair ornament/ headpiece

Which of the below activities is of most interest to you?

A) Reading interesting novels
B) Dancing
C) Playing a sport
D) Shopping for the latest trends

What is your favorite color?

A) Pink
B) Red
C) Blue
D) Orange

What would be your dream vacation?

A) Relaxing on a beautiful exotic beach
B) Exploring the festive streets of an exotic country like Brazil or Argentina
C) Staying active and exploring nature- hiking, rock climbing, or cycling
D) Visiting Paris for Fashion Week

Now count up you’re A’s, B’s, C’s and D’s!

If you picked mostly A’s, you are:  The Innocent Bride

image001 You prefer a more angelic look and love sprucing up your look with flowers, pastels, and more earthy accessories. When getting married, you will feel most comfortable choosing a gown that is more traditional. Traditional gowns are fitted on top and come out wide at the waist, in a princess-like manner. Top the look off with soft curls and accessories like white flowers, which can be real or an accessory of your choice decorated with crystals. However, as with any unique bridal styles this look is certainly not for every bride. Her innocent look is not something that can be recreated with the right makeup or the right dress; she will look this way no matter what she wears.  Just because the dress is fluffy and white does not mean that everyone will look adorable in it. So, flatter your fabulous self and accentuate your assets.

If you picked mostly B’s, you are: The Sensual Bride

image002 The sensual bride is bold and exciting; she takes risks and lives for passion. Physically, the sensual bride tends to have strong features and looks dignified and elegant with red lipstick rather than a made-up doll. Wearing white on your wedding day symbolizes virginity and purity but let’s face it, we don’t all have angelic faces nor care to look innocent, even on our wedding day. For this time of bride, a fitted gown accentuating the hips and waist, some red lipstick, an elegant hair twist and an attitude that says “I can rock this look” are the way to go. We have all seen women who are desperately trying to carry out the sensual style with an innocent bride look! It just looks unnatural. Therefore, if you have strong features, have a curvy body and look great in a mermaid fitted gown, this look is definitely for you! Keep in mind that dressing a little sexy on your wedding is okay, but it will be best to still make sure it is done in good taste.

If you picked mostly C’s, you are: The Casual Bride

image003 You’re a nature-lover, enjoy playing with the young ones, roughing it with the boys and you don’t mind getting dirty. Comfort is what you look for in clothes, and your wedding gown should be no exception.. The gowns that you will find surprisingly comfortable and casual, while still elegant for your wedding are different variations of the Grecian-inspired dresses. These gowns are flowing and comfortable yet elegant and sultry. They are fitted at the bust and flow to the ground. To top off the look,, try accentuating the hair with soft waves or with braids on the sides of the head. This look is great for a bride who has always dreamed of a beach wedding or a casual destination wedding.

If you picked mostly D’s, you are: The Trendy Bride

image004 You’re the girl setting the trends not following them. You have always been considered a trendsetter, and therefore your wedding day should be no exception. For the Trendy Bride, gone is the day when putting together a bridal look was all about tradition. You’re the girl most likely to revolutionize the bridal look once and for all! A note to all brides, this look is very difficult to pull off unless you are the Carry Bradshaw of your circle, I mean, who else can pull off a bird in their hair on their wedding day? Dare to add color to your gown, accessorize with interesting hats and hair-pieces, add a statement necklace, or even opt for a short gown. The sky is the limit for the Trendy bride, but stay true to your body type and skin complexion. You’ve always known how to pull off any look, so make sure you’re working with what you know and not totally stepping out of your best looks.

Remember, no matter what category you fall under, it’s all about confidence. A bride needs to “own” her look and feel comfortable carrying out a style. Choosing the look that will fit your personality will bring out your inner happiness, confidence and ultimately result in an amazing wedding day experience for the fabulous and stylish you!

Perfect Wedding Dress Body

Trying to get that last minute wedding dress body? You probably want to focus on your arms, shoulders, and back which are normally exposed in the mass majority of wedding dresses. If you are running close to time of your big day you can do spot training but I recommend you do basic cardio along with the “spot” exercises. Plus in order to live a healthy life with your new mate it’s recommended by the CDC to engage in 60 minutes of vigorous activities daily that increase your heart rate. But Back to the Basic we are in crunch time of your big day. Let’s start by drinking plenty of water so you stay hydrated during your cardio workouts and eat a healthy diet.

For a basic workout to have you looking fabulous on your big day. You want to start by doing simple free-weight lifting with a max of 10 lbs because if you’re anything like me you get results in your arms real quick and you don’t want to look like Hulk Hogan on your “Big Day”. Some other ways to sculpt your arms if equipment is available you can get an stability ball and a medicine ball and lay flat on your back and hold the ball Holding medicine ball with both hands, lie face-up on stability ball with head and shoulder blades resting on its center, knees bent 90 degrees and feet flat so that torso feet are parallel to the floor so that torso is parallel to the floor. Keeping abs engaged and hips lifted, extend arms toward ceiling, directly over shoulders. This also is a good workout for your abs. You can do 1 or 2 sets of reps at a time.

Another focus point can be your shoulders. A good way to get your shoulders looking wedding gown ready is to do simple shoulder rotations. Shoulder rotations work the rotator cuff which can define muscles in your deltoid, upper back, and can show definition of your bicep muscles. You can add a light weight if you would like but this can be done without as well. And I would avoid this exercise if you currently have any back problems or discomfort

With these two spot exercising techniques, adequate water, and proper eating you are on your way to looking like a fabulous  bride with your back and arms out. Not only will guest be admiring your dress but they also will be asking about your exercise routine.

We Likey: The Tiffany iPhone App

Tiffany Iphone App

The little blue box makes it way to your iPhone!

Tiffany and Co. offers its first app with the ring size finder, there is nothing like it. Plus, you can also make an appointment to go in store or set up a call with a consultant via the app as well.

The app allows you to choose an engagement ring (there are 44 on the app) from the storied fine jewelry house, find out information about settings/diamonds/carats/cut/metal, pair it with a band that fits with the ring, and determine ring size (how many men have had to find sneaky ways to figure that out – and failed!!!) by placing a ring on the screen and scrolling through sizes to find a match. Director of Media Relations for Tiffany & Co. says, “The new iPhone engagement app provides another access point to Tiffany’s expertise and knowledge.  Today more and more people are getting their information through mobile devices. We are now providing an additional interactive way to browse the Tiffany engagement selection. Tiffany recognizes that its customers are engaged in social media. We are hopeful this app provides an easy and effective tool for them to communicate with others on the magic of a Tiffany engagement ring. “

Indeed it does….

Guest Blogger: ABC’s of choosing your wedding day beauty professionals by Tiffony Simpson

You met Jules de Jesus with in our beauty segment on Tuesday, now meet the other half of the dynamic duo—Tiffony Simpson of Ony Salon!

Congratulations!  You are getting married and I know you are excited to begin planning your big day.  You have hired your wedding planner and now it is time to choose the people who will help you look and feel your personal best on your wedding day!  As a licensed cosmetologist and beauty professional with over 12 years of experience, I have been blessed to be a part of countless weddings with the majority being destination brides. Destination weddings are my favorite!  What a great way to share such a wonderful memory in a location where friends and family can come for rest and relaxation while they celebrate with you and the love of your life.  In my experiences with brides, I have learned several tips that I want to share with you to make your wedding day hair/makeup flawless and chic.

untitled7

  1. Always hire a hair/makeup professional.  Someone who is professionally trained and licensed/certified in their craft.  I have had several brides call me last minute because their family friend who thought they could do her hair was found to be incapable of recreating what she wanted or at the last minute could not come to the wedding.  Hiring a professional will diminish the chance of something like this happening.  On a side note, always ask your beauty professional to see recent pictures of their work, especially if there aren’t portfolio pictures on their website.  Portfolio pictures will allow you to see the range of work that they can do.  Even if there is not a picture similar to what you may want, you should be able to see if their “style” matches yours.  You should see something in there you like even if you don’t like it for yourself.

No_0003_MattMcGrawPhoto_LeonardWedding

  1. Be sure to book a trial run!  Do not just trust your wedding day hair to chance.  A trial run serves as a chance to get to know the professional better and vice versa.  A wedding hair/makeup professional should have a contract ready for you.  Be leery of any wedding professional who does not draw up a contract. A contract protects you from a no show on your wedding day; it also gives a detailed layout of pricing information, so there will not be any surprises or misunderstandings.

  1. Consider the weather and your surroundings.  If you are having a beach or garden wedding in Coastal Georgia, you will want to keep in mind that your hair may have an adverse reaction to the style you have chosen.  That is also another reason why choosing a stylist from the area where you plan to get married is a good idea.  They will be better able to guide you on appropriate style choices.  For example, if you are from a low humidity climate coming to Coastal Georgia. your hair may require the use of different products than you are use to to get the same or similar results that you get at home.  In other words, if you have naturally curly hair and you normally wear it straight, special considerations will need to be made.
  2. Decide on a beauty professional who will not only make you look gorgeous, but who will also provide a calming and enjoyable experience!  As the owner of Ony Salon, it is always our goal to create an atmosphere that is fun and light.  We want you to feel your personal best inside and out.  We love to work with the professionals of Dollface by Jules who do fabulous job making your face flawless and glowing as well as making your cheeks tired from laughter.  In other words your wedding day should be your day to sit back, relax, and let your glam team bring out the beauty that already lies within.
  3. Congratulations!!!

Guest Blogger: Take His Breath Away Bridal Looks by Jules de Jesus

Beautiful Bridal Shoot by Allison Reisz Makeup by Dollface by Jules in Savannah Georgia

When thinking of your wedding day, most think of how they will look.  Being timeless, flawless, and gorgeous is all a must for any bride.  But what exactly does that mean?  I’ll try to explain and hopefully help you with your makeup concerns.  Who am I?  My name is Jules De Jesus.  I’m a Professional Makeup Artist and Founder of Dollface by Jules.  I have well over 13 years of pro experience specializing in bridal makeup.  I have had the honor of being apart of so many weddings.  I simply love what I do!  Enough about me, let’s talk wedding day makeup.

Bridal Beauty Makeup in Savannah by Dollface by Jules and Photography by Allison Reisz

So what does being “timeless” mean?  Basically, you don’t want to follow trends for your special day.  If you don’t normally wear red lipstick, don’t try it on your big day.  Stay true to your self by looking like you on your day.  Your fiancé already thinks you are the most beautiful girl in the world, so try to concentrate on being a flawless version of yourself.  So with that being said, let’s move to being flawless.

Dollface by Jules Makeup by Jules de Jesus Savannah Georgia Wedding Make up Artist

How does one look flawless?  I’ll tackle this in two parts.  First, start with some sort of beauty routine before your wedding day.  Make sure to exfoliate, moisturize, & use SPF 30+ every day for beautiful skin. This way your skin will look great and less “covering up” will be needed. Also, always have a trial run.  It’s best for you and your makeup artist (MUA). Your MUA will need to see your skin in person to make proper recommendations. For my brides, I often give personalized skin care tips during the trial. Have your trial as close to the wedding day as possible. Your skin will be almost exactly what it will be on the big day.

Second, hire a professional.  A Pro MUA will apply the same techniques and tricks they use on models for photo shoots. This means you won’t need to panic over dark circles or pesky blemishes. While models may look amazing in magazines, you can be sure they don’t show up on set looking picture perfect. Makeup artists are trained to use cosmetics to create the illusion of flawless skin.

Not only will you look flawless, but you will feel gorgeous.  Take time out for you, being pampered and letting pros do what they do goes along way in taking away extra stress.  My partner in beauty, Tiffony Simpson of Ony Salon, and I work very hard on creating the best experience for our brides.  We are always honored to be a part of every special day and wedding. We will try our very best to make the experience with us as memorable, professional, & as fun as possible.

Be timeless, flawless, and feel gorgeous.  It’s your day to be the belle of the ball, so do it right!

Guest Blogger: Saying “I Do” with a Charitable Heart

Letterpress wedding favor card - Amazon Conservation Association - printed by Smock by Smock Letterpress.

  • Your wedding day is one of the happiest days of your life. You’re surrounded by family, friends and, of course, love. Why not spread some of it around by incorporating a little charity into the occasion? Here are some ways for you to marry in style and with a giving heart.

  • Floral decor: Look to your florist to see if they donate any of their sales to charity. If you’re unable to find one or are short on time, visit JustGive.org. The site donates 10% of each purchase to the charity of your choice and the beautiful floral arrangements (below) would make great centerpieces.
  • Photobucket

    Photobucket

  • Wedding Favors: Instead of the traditional wedding favors (i.e., chocolates, matches, a mix CD), many couples are making charitable donations in their guests’ name. Check with your charity of choice to see if they will provide you with favor donation cards, otherwise you can find chic options online!
  • idtt_donationcd

    BWdonationcards

  • Hotels: When booking rooms for out-of-town guests, consider Kimpton Hotels. The company, which operates boutique hotels across the country, is a big supporter of both local and national nonprofit organizations. You can get in on the act by using a discount code that donates 10% of each night’s stay to various charities AND gives you $10-$15 off each night of your stay!
  • Hotel EPIC - Miami

  • Wedding Gifts: Do you really think that you’ll use that apple corer or crystal stemware set? Why not ask guests to make a donation in your name to your favorite charity? If you actually do want (or need) the gifts, there’s nothing wrong with that either! Head on over to the I Do Foundation‘s website and register your wedding gifts with one of the partner stores, including Target. Participating retailers will donate a percentage of your registry sales to the charity of your choice.
  • Catering: As nonprofits look to social enterprise to raise funds outside of donations, more and more organizations are starting business operations, including catering operations. NYC’s Housing Works, an organization fighting homelessness and AIDS in the city, operates The Works Catering as one of its many social enterprises. The Works Catering is operated by a four star chef and prepares seasonal cuisine for many events, including weddings.
    • phpThumb_generated_thumbnail.jpeg phpThumb_generated_thumbnail2.jpeg

Of course, the options don’t end here! There are many ways to incorporate charitable elements into your ceremony and reception. Ask your wedding planner if they know of any businesses or vendors who are involved in charitable organizations. If you’re really set on spreading the love, they will definitely make sure that happens!

Get Your Man (Involved with Wedding Planning!)

    wedding planning by fOtOdOjO.

More often than not, almost every bride at some point complains that her groom isn’t doing “enough” to assist with the wedding planning.  Depending on her scale of sanity, these expectations can be range from realistic to insane.  For those ladies who have been “blessed” with a Groomzilla, this isn’t for you.  It could be that he doesn’t know how to help or where to begin, or he recognizes your infinite wisdom and believes you have it all under control.

Remember, this is a totally new territory for your guy.  Your dad, God bless him, has a slight edge in that he’s already done this.  He’s experience it from a different vantage point, but he can recall everything involved.  Your man, however, has been thrust into a world filled with lace, glossy bridal magazines, linen samples, and other bridal atrocities that make me want to go off to the deep end.  Long gone are the days shooting pool with the guys or reading his kindle.  His life is now consumed with wedding planning, and he really wants a bailout.

Honey, I’ve been married for ten years and I will tell you three things that a man will always be interested in:  food, fashion and fun.  These vary on the scale of importance to each man, but you know your guy…where does his interests lie?  No matter the case for what can appear as his lack of enthusiasm, we’ll help you get through it:

Food:  The old adage says the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.  Very true.  If your guy is a health nut, foodie, or just loves to veg overall, let him take the steering wheel with the food.  Don’t worry, he won’t make any bad decisions (he’s got you, after all, right?), but in the very off chance he seems to be deviating from the course, gently guide him back or offer him one of his outstanding ideas he hasn’t thought of yet (i.e., make him think he came up with it).  For example, if your guy says at the catering consult that he just wants burgers and fries (trust me, it happens)—tell him that’s a fantastic idea and come up with some gourmet sliders and fresh cut fried potatoes for the cocktail hour or as a snack at your after party.  What ever his likes are, find a way to incorporate them.

Fashion:  While some guys are perfectly fine with a pair of shorts or old jeans and flip flops, your guy is meticulous about his looks right down to the  hair on his head.  Call around to tuxedo retailers and get catalogs for you to give to him.  Listen as he gives his thoughts.  Look through ads and shows of his favorite designers.  What are some of his signature styles?  Does he always wear a scarf or argyle socks?  Make that mesh with the wedding look!  Let him take the lead and watch him get completely enthralled with planning.

Fun:  What does he like to do for fun?  What do you two enjoy doing together?  Is there any way that can be scaled up or down and integrated into your wedding?  Let him handle the band or DJ—including the musical selections, setup, etc.  Inspire other great ideas like a miniature golf set up if yours is a casual fun affair or even an interactive Wii station as the night goes on.  Whether it’s music, games, lighting or a combo of the three—he’ll be game.

    Happy Planning

Cocktails and Details with Celebrity Chef Paul Griffith

chef paul griffith, private celebrity chef

I had an opportunity to see Chef Paul in action at the Barbados Festival on Amelia Island last month.  His demonstrations were so much fun and full of personality.  The guests that were fortunate enough to obtain front row seating were treated to a sample of the dishes that he designed and prepared during the festivities.  I loved his infectious personality and how creative he was with his dishes.  Naturally, I wanted to share him with you, luxelings as he gives tips to embracing the creative aspects of your wedding menu!

    Enjoy!

c&d:  What suggestions do you have for couples who are looking to incorporate their personalities, travels and histories into their menus for their wedding?
chef paul:  This is a good question. I think couples should explore all that is them in their wedding menus. Themed buffets and festive menus featuring items that they have tried on their travels should be included in the menu planning. Guests should be given the opportunity to learn who the bride and groom are by the type of food that is served at their wedding. Remember, guests are there to celebrate their union and should learn about you. One fun way would be to design a menu, buffet or plated, where each course represents a stage during the couples courting relationship. For example, the first course could be a dish from the time they first travelled together. This can be done all the way up to the dessert, where the dessert can represent the location of their engagement.

c&d:  How can a couple include non-traditional or exotic choices into their menu without alienating their guests?
    chef paul:
Weddings these days are anything but traditional in terms of menus. True, the decorum may still have traditional aspects but the food has completely changed. Hors D’oeuvres can provide the opportunity for couples to showcase exotic items. Guests love and I must stress the word love, new items to try. Couples can either have Hors D’oeuvres on a table or passed. I prefer passed, as it provides a more catered feeling to guests. Couples can have 6 different Hors D’oeuvres on an exotic menu, three (3) favorites from the bride and three (3) favorites from the groom. Name them as well, with unique and fun names that represent the couple. Guests will love this!!

c&d:  What are some simple dishes that can be kicked up a notch for a memorable food experience at a wedding?
    chef paul:
I think salads have been looked over so much at weddings. Clients normally ask me for salads as just a side dish; however, when I create unique salads that can even represent an entrée, they love it. People are watching their weight these days, especially at weddings, and salads can be a dish that their guests can feel comfortable indulging in.  Salads with fresh spinach, grilled meats, roasted vegetables, hint of ginger, even blue berries or blackberries coupled with unique dressings like roasted shallot and mint blends, can make things pop at the table. Soups are making a big come back as well. Not your traditional thin soups like yesteryear, I speak of thick hearty soups that blend all of the world’s cuisines. For example, on my website and business cards, I have a picture of lobster bisque and potato leek duet soup topped with lobster and chive salsa. Clients ask for this all the time. We have even topped it with a shot of sherry. Talk about fun, a spoonful at a time.

c&d:  More couples are opting for interactive bars at their receptions– mashed potato bars, grits bars, etc. What are some fun and different ways to have interaction at the wedding?
chef paul:  I have done an interactive soup shot bar. Guest have slim tall shot glasses with various soups, then they top those soups with various items like Sambuca sautéed rock shrimp, lobster salsa, grilled and thinly sliced filet mignon, flaked salmon with orange peel or various roasted vegetables. Guests enjoy creating their own unique sipper soup combo and their friends always try to match it. You can even add in items like Grand Marnier and various Sakes in the soups to boost the fun factor.

Let’s talk dessert, everyone’s favorite part of every dinning experience. Dessert can be taken to another level with the inclusion of fresh fruit bar toppings, various warm sauces and more. I get several proposals for cheesecake to be served and guests can be offered a cheesecake bar. Instead of the traditional wedge cheese cake slice, pieces of cake can be in rectangular shapes where guests can then top them with their chosen sauce, fruit, rum marmalades and even flavored caramels.
