We Likey: Style Me Pretty’s Style Circle

style me pretty style circle wedding community

If you adore details and the latest trends in weddings, then you will go bananas for Style Me Pretty’s Style Circle.  Far more intimate and interactive than most of the bustling online communities for brides, Style Circle allows you to explore creative options for your wedding inspiration.  In addition to maintaining a blog of your inspiring ideas, you can also create storyboards and interact with other Style Circle members on the forums for feedback and assistance.  Here are some of the things I am loving from the community members:

From member Brancoprata’s blog:

I loved the softness of this palate crated by Lauren Renee:

This is a clip, the original inspiration board can be found here.  With the innovative technology behind the Style Circle’s inspiration board creator, it credits the photographer, in this case the talented Carla Ten Eyck, as well as tags the individual images with a description and color breakdown. (Genius!)

There is so much to explore and participate in at the Style Circle, so if you haven’t had an opportunity to do so yet, check it out!

Inspiration ::Crème Brûlée::

Creme Brulee with berries

It is no secret that I absolutely L-O-V-E crème brûlée.  (Seriously, it’s unnatural)

When checking my stats, I noticed a lot of people were looking for crème brûlée inspiration boards.  I figured that a lot were attracted because of my fake crème brûlée recipe and our moodboard section.  I decided to take a stab at it, focusing on all of the things that crème brûlée represents to me.

cremebrulee.jpg

I based this board’s shades around the colors in crème brûlée– the soft ivories of the custard, the golden brown of the carmelized sugar, the bright white of  the whipped cream and the rich red of berries that accompanies most servings.  The linen samples are from BBJButtercup Lamour (the custard), Antique Gold Sparkle Sheer and Espresso Bichon Runner (the carmelized sugar).  When I think of crème brûlée, I think of very rich and full flavors.  It was only fitting that flowers like red ranunculus and ivory mystique roses would be incorporated into the centerpieces.  When paired with this gorgeous fluted vase from Country Living, the look is simple, yet elegant.  The low vase resembled ramekins used when cooking this decadent dessert.  Its coloring will pop against the warmth of the linens.  Those same warm colors are incorporated into the textured invitations and the pillar candles which produce an amber glow for the event.  The gorgeous bridesmaid’s dress from Dillards also ties in those colors and textures.

Très delish!

Hot Color Combos: Wintered Rose and Shitake

winteredrose-shitake For this week’s hot colors, we’re taking another cue from the Pantone Fall 2008 Color Report.  Wintered Rose and Shitake are a different play on the already tired pink and brown theme.  Instead of drawing attention with bold statement colors, these muted tones are more sultry and more complex.  Last week, we went for bold and contrast.  This week, we’re a bit more subdued.  These deep shades can resonate so much– but for me, it was the romance. I saw nothing but modern elegance and lushness when I saw this mauve and brown shade.  The ivory added a touch of innocence at the same time.

Hot Color Combos: Purple and Marigold

pm I think grown women should have grown women colors, don’t you?  I’ve seen some demure things that are gorgeous, but I really do love it when a bride gets a little "risque" with color.  It just says so much about her personality and where she is going with her event when she experiments with vibrant colors.  Color just makes you feel sexy, alive, mysterious, daring, beautiful…. It can be kind of hard to feel that way when you are dressed up like a Disney Princess.

Ever since Michelle Obama wore her fist bumping purple dress, more people are falling in love with the shade.  Some of us who closely follow the Pantone Color Trends saw it coming.  Even though we’re seeing the standard influx of Tiffany Blue and Yellow, more bolder and richer colors are making their presence known.  (FYI, this really makes you look like the rockstar bride when you choose a color that is hot an can be worn again successfully without looking like a young maiden that interacts with talking candlesticks and clocks, while being courted by a beast).  On the fair side, Trends are fleeting– but guess what, so is your wedding. It’s not going to happen at the same time every year– it represents where you are at that particular moment.  No, you shouldn’t pick a color just because it’s "trendy".  "Trendy" will look dated in a few months or years.  When it is reflective of who you are, that my friends, is what stands the test of time.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Moodboard by Once Upon Your Wedding

Winter is coming!  Here is a modest moodboard that was part of a picture challenge over at iWED .  The challenge was to use the middle picture to inspire the rest of the board.  I liked the idea of two things for this winter board:  varying shades of blue and ice.  I chose the concept of going cool and warm for the cocktail  hour (you can see the signature drink and hors d’oeuvres by the cake…), by choosing a “not-so-hot chocolate”– cool mocha enhanced by Kahlua and warmed by cinnamon sugar garnish, and a pumpkin soup shooter.  At a glance, the cake looks rather simple, however, it’s frosting is an iridescent color and ornamented with snowflakes.  The crystal tree brings the reminiscence of walking through an icy forest with icicles falling from its branches.  To take the ice concept a bit further, the champagne chiller is exactly that: made of ice.  The centerpieces again, use crystals to mimic ice reflective of the theme.  I always love candlelight at winter weddings, but it plays so well with this theme because the light bounces of the crystals, subsequently doubling the effect.

Tempt Your Palette

I’m a big storyboard fan (I know…I owe several here on the blog).  For some the concept might be hard to get a kick off point.  Now you can use this nifty Palette Generator to help you select shades, tones and colors from a photograph on your computer. Check out this sample.  Let’s say we’re “inspired” by this bouquet for the overall scheme and design of the event.  We upload it to the generator and it breaks the colors down for us:

So go on! Upload your favorite eye candy and give it a whirl!  You can be inspired greatly!

The Dauphine

I really liked Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.  I was also a huge fan of The Affair of the Necklace, as well. I was not all that surprised that both movies used the same fabulous costume designer, Milena Canonero.  I loved everything about those movies:  the lush fabrics, the delicious colors and ostentatious jewelry.  What came to mind while I was watching it?  Of course:  wedding sugar 🙂 LOL!  I kept seeing all types of things that would be wonderful to incorporate into a wedding.  So, that is the inspiration for this week’s storyboard.  Offset on vintage black and white toile with classic baroque elements in soft, blush pinks, we believe the queen would be proud!  Without further adieu…

Gitchi Gitchi Ya Ya Da Da…

No, I’m not practicing my baby talk.  After the Soprano’s disappointing finale, my unborn child has already heard a few choice words.  I’m singing the lyrics to the super sultry and suggestive, Lady Marmalade.  It is also the inspiration for this week’s storyboard, Lady Marmalade.  Painted in red in black and shrouded in mystery and romance, this is a great starting point for your Moulin Rouge themed wedding.  Inspired by the movie and Cirque du Soleil , we bring a culmination of elements to appeal to the senses.  Though there are some key things we would change to make this more dynamic for the client, we hope it inspires you! See you next week, when our new storyboard will be….(LOL you’ll have to come back to find out!)

In the Moodboard for Love

ecru.jpgWe often create storyboards (better known recently as “mood boards”) for clients. When done in person, they are very tactile– including flowers, stones, and linen swatches, as well as pictures of conceptual designs like centerpieces, layouts, etc.

Because we work with a lot of OOT clients, we decided to start doing e-Boards to email to client, based on the information obtained from their questionnaire.

Each week, we will share a board and hope it strikes some inspirtation in you too! This week’s inspiration comes from a latin theme, primarily from the Dominican Republic.
