Bride and Bloom Anniversary Party

Thanks to the Bridal Bar for this scoop!

One of my favorite b-mags (bridal magazines, if you’re not fluent in Terrica) is The Bride and Bloom.  If you are looking for truly innovative and gorgeous design ideas, you have to get a subscription NOW. Do not pass go and collect $200. Right Now!

They celebrated their first anniverary party, and who was the guest of honor!?  No, not me…but maybe soon :)  But his fabulousness himself, none other than Preston Bailey!

How cute are those cookies and milk shooters?  Perfect if you have a lot of kids in your guest list during cocktail hour!

The centerpieces just look so Preston, so I could immediately tell he either put his magic touch to it or was there in the near vicinity!  Hope these inspire you!

Meet Me at the Bar!

I just stumbled across a great blog recently, The Bridal Bar.

Even though the Bridal Bar site is a resource site for events in sunny California, you can still get great ideas and tips from their blog.  The blog is hip to all of the event happenings in LA and surrounding areas, so if you are looking for that celebrity styled event, you are at the right spot!

Way to Go, Khris!

Many of you know how much I heart Khris Cochran of DIY Bride.  She is a phenomenal talent and I will go even as far to say she’s a creative genius.  Khris gave a sneak peek of the cover of her new book this week, and it is just too cute!

If you haven’t checked out DIY Bride yet, I don’t know what’s wrong with you or what’s taking you so long!  I’ve only been raving about her for like. EVER 🙂

www.diybride.com is a great community full of ideas, tips and news on how to make (literally) your wedding fantastic.  There is even a community there for you and other fellow brides to share ideas.

 Enjoy!

Martha! Martha! Martha!

She’s at it again, ladies and gentleman!  Martha Stewart recently launched www.marthastewartcrafts.com, unleashing a creative fury that is sure to set your DIY dreams ablaze!

With creative ideas such as favor boxes (seen at the right with the cute little tissue flowers), heirloom tags, place cards, and other crafty items that you can leave with your imagination.  These products are available online as well as in  the retail craft store, Michaels.

For more great ideas, check out what Martha has in store for you for your wedding or shower:

Rollback the Wedding Dresses

As you may (or may not) have heard, your local stores are now carrying bridal fashions.  That’s right–say goodbye to David’s Bridal and boutiques. Journey right on down to your nearest Target or Ann Taylor  (featured left) for your wedding garb.  We recently discussed the new trend of retailers carrying bridal gowns when H&M released their wedding gowns to the public.

Depending on your budget (or the budgets of your bridal party), this could be a plausible option for you.  Keep your eyes peeled… word on the street is that Vera Wang may be next with her own retail line of dresses!

Bride on a Wire

One of my favorite communities for brides is Wedding Wire.  It’s a fantastic place to interact with other brides– find out what’s hot in your area, get advice on vendors and  more.  You can also read reviews of other brides about all of the vendors you are possibly considering.  It’s a fabulous community and has all of the resources you need!

WOO HOO! Cinco De Mayo!

47b5cf28b3127cce9578a2f1f6130000001.jpgIt’s a sad day in Terrica Town when it’s Mayor cannot indulge in a few delicious libations!  But just because I can’t doesn’t mean you can’t!  So here is one of my favorite margarita recipes. Share it with your girlfriends, add it to your signature drink candidate list or my personal favorite, add it to your PDA 🙂

 Pink Lemonade Margarita

1/4 cup tequila
2 tablespoons orange liqueur
2 tablespoons frozen pink lemonade concentrate

Get A Little Good Fortune!

Back on the edible favor tip…if you are looking for a sweet way to thank guests for coming out, check out Good Fortunes.  They have an array of  fortune cookie and other edible favors that are just adorable!  Your fortune cookies even come with your very own message!  How sweet is that :)

Memoirs of a Reception

Currently, I am reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Authur Golden.  It is a stunningly vivid piece; an eastern Cinderella/Coming of Age story.  Typically, I’m into thrillers and absolutely anything by John Grisham.  Surprisingly enough, this grabbed and kept my attention.  I am almost done (I hate to see the end!), and of course I will then add it to my Netflix Queue.  (BTW?  Do you Netflix?)

I’m a big Oscar (aka the Academy Awards) buff…don’t ask me who won in what year.  Ask me who wore what in what year ;)  The movie won 3 academy awards for its photography, mixing and costuming. If you are planning a Japanese themed wedding, this would be a great way to grab some inspiration and a good flick!

I even went over to the website and got these great recipes for you– perfect for cocktail hour!

I Want Candy!

table_6.jpg…sing it with me now!

Candy bars are becoming tres chic in the wedding world, even though they have been around for a while.  A lot of our weddings this year have had candy bars– as a matter of fact, more have had them than not!  Here are some tips:

  • Make it cute:  incorporate your colors or theme.  It will really add to the decor without spending more on flowers, linens, etc.
  • Opt for varying shaped containers, like those to the right.  Try places like SaveOnCrafts.
  • Shoot for non-wrapped candies; they can take away from the overall effect, even thoough it will save you on a scoop!
  • Get containers for your guests to take their candy with them:  tins (like above), chinese take out boxes, bags with your names and dates on them. We give several ideas in the WeddingStyle newsletter and show– just take your pick 🙂
  • GO BULK.  You will save so much money by doing it this way! Don’t attempt to try to buy bags of candy from a store. Go to an actual candy store or a wholesaler online.  If you’re going to do it, might as well do it right, right? I heart Groovy Candies.
  • Look for great design/setup ideas. Your job isn’t done once you pick up the candy and toss it in a few containers.  Again, this can add to the overall theme and design of your event.  Start designing the concept of your bar, again, using containers at different heights and shapes, stacking them, creating lollipop trees, etc.

Why is this taking off you ask?  Well, really….when was the last time you were at a wedding where you couldn’t wait to take home the favor?  Better yet, show me 3 favors from the weddings you went to this year.  Don’t worry…I’ll wait.

Precisely.  I had to console a poor SMOB when the gorgeous seashell favors weren’t taken home by guests.  Guests totally bypass them at times– especially after partying and drinking.  At least this is something you can see being used and it’s fun!
