Bridal Beauty: Sensai

sensai cellular performance hydrachange tinted gel cream

Houston: we have zero problems.

For the past week, I’ve been on a new regimen from Sensai, which is sure to get you HD camera ready for your wedding day!  I received samples of the SENSAI Hydrachange TInted Gel Cream ($78) which is DIVINE.  I have always been a fan of tinted moisturizers for their lightweight, dewy finish that they produce.  This is especially perfect for destination weddings in our area (especially St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island), where there is a tremendous amount of humidity.  It balances the skin’s natural hydration levels and color without streaking, melting or crumbling while providing the coverage you need.  I had been working on my complexion for a while and had a few breakouts, but I think this is perfect for clear complexions or those with minor imperfections that can be camoflauged with light applications of concealer.  I have yellow undertones, so the Almond shade was absolutely perfect when it blended in.  It will be available in April 2011, so that is right around the corner.

sensai-lifting-radiance-3d-maskFor an extra pamper treatment or a gift for your bridesmaids, try the SENSAI Lifting Radiance 3D Mask ($165). I’ve been to many spas and enjoyed many treatments.  I could not believe I was in my own house when I spread this luxurious mask across my face.  First, it was heavenly scented and drenched in emollients.  For 20 minutes I was transported and forgot that I was in my bedroom with the fabutots playing at my feet.  When my time was up, my face was soft, supple and glowing.  I’m a definite fan.  I thought that the mask would tear and would be really fragile since it is fairly thin and soaked in the moisturizers.  However, it was surprisingly tear resistant and strong!

The guys aren’t left out either;   to get your groom ready for the wedding day or even as a

gift during the honeymoon:  select the Hommage Pre-Shave Oil ($60) for a nick-free, perfectly smooth shave which is made from a patented formula blend of rare white truffle extract.  A new innovation are the Styptic Match Books ($50)– a touch of the match tip will immediately stop any shaving mishaps, especially if he didn’t use the Pre-Shave Oil.

We Likey: Makers Mark (Signature Drink Inside!)

peach bourbon smash cocktail

:: The Peach Bourbon Smash ::

We’re all for a good cocktail, especially a nice Southern cocktail for a signature drink!

We received a beautiful bottle of Makers Mark to sample, and WOW!  Makers Mark is a Kentucky bourbon with a soft, smooth flavor—what is so special about Makers is that the flavor stems from the root of winter wheat in the mash as opposed to rye.

You would expect bourbon to be hard; but this smooth, full bodied and very flavorful.  I love the bottle, which looks like melted wax own the sides; I almost was sad to break the seal.  FYI, Makers Mark has a wonderful rich history of being a family owned distillery and that unique wax seal is created by hand.  Each bottle is hand dipped!

Known as “the” bourbon for young sophisticates, it’s good clean, and in my opinion, very good mixed in a cocktail.  I enjoyed it in a whiskey sour and also loved it in this great Southern Cocktail:

Bourbon Peach Smash

  • Muddle 2 pieces of fresh Georgia peach, 2 lemon pieces, and 2 to 3 mint leaves in 1 ounce of simple
  • syrup in the bottom of a mixing glass
  • Add 2 ounces of Maker’s Mark Bourbon and shake
  • Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with crushed ice
  • Garnish with a mint sprig

If you ever get a chance to try it, you will definitely like it– even if you aren’t a boubom

We Likey: Preston Bailey’s Color Palette Picker

It’s no secret that we are completely in love with color and the Wizard of Aahhs himself, Preston Bailey has a new feature on his website with creating delicious palettes and inspiring ideas for your wedding. Simply pick a color and then you can pick elements of your events such as number of guests, its location, the light source and the event’s tone.

You then add your choice of a “Preston Bailey” touch and the tool generates a color palette as well as information about it.

Very cool and an uber amounts of fun. Go play! Tell us your favorite palettes!

I Dare You: Shake Up Your Wedding Lounge

I absolutely adore lounges at wedding.  Even for the cocktail hour and times after, it serves as a cool respite for guests to get away or discover other areas of your wedding reception. What is becoming unloved is redundant white furniture. While I love the chic Miami look— I am finding that it is becoming overdone.  I am SO glad to see some new options out there for creating a one of a kind lounge area.

Cort Luna lounge funiture for weddings parties and events Light up

Perhaps you’d like to go a little futuristic, with several elements of your furniture serving as lit décor. Talk about fashion meeting function!

I love this black and white patterned sofa from Cort, which also has a matching chair set, which is now available for rent.  This is from their Essex collection.

I really love this martini circle bar. it almost has a futuristic Jetsons look to it, but what I love the most is that it isn’t the standard six foot table with risers on it that is seen at so many weddings.  Just a note—people will spend more time at your bar than your cake table or other areas, so make it lively, fun and part of the event.  Cort also has some great pieces like the Luna light furniture (above) with a bar to match!

I Dare You: Get a Mermaid

image

Many times you will see that grooms run the gamut when it comes to getting a band or DJ.  Some make the argument that they love live music, others say they don’t want to see someone else sing covers.  If you’ve opted for a DJ, this may leave funding available in your wedding budget for some “other” entertainment.

Now, when I was in college, one of my major’s pre-reqs was to take Sociology.  I had the best professor who was a freelance writer for Cosmopolitan magazine. At one point, she told us a story of how she had to interview Steve Tyler of Aerosmith for the magazine.  She said she stepped into his house and he had mermaids swimming in his living room.  INSANE.

Well, now your event can have a mermaid, too.  I’m a huge proponent of creating fun, unique events.  We’ve given you options of incorporating some tasteful, yet nonconventional ideas into your wedding to make it the most talked about event of the year.  However, Zhantra takes it to a whole new level.

Brazilian Brasilian Carnival Dancers

Imagine ditching the “traditional” introductions into your reception and coming in between lines of Carnival dancers who can then do a short performance for you and your guests.

Event Entertainment :: Fire dancers

Fire dancers and synchronized swimmers are ALWAYS fun. We’ve done fire dancers towards the end of the evening to avoid the reception lull and guests LOVED it.  The show was great and gave the guests a chance to rest and enjoy the entertainment. When it was time for the show to be over, every one was excited and ready to tear up the dance floor again.

These strolling tables are my absolutely favorite.  They add so much character…pardon the pun. These tables can move, hence the term “strolling” or the can be stationary.

So go on…get a strolling table…or a fire dancer…or a mermaid.  Shake it up!

Move Over Barbie, it’s Ken’s Turn to Party

Just like every little girl was always obsessed with Barbie, she was equally obsessed with Barbie’s man, Ken.  So naturally, I adored the Ken party thrown during last month’s Fashion Week.  Mattel threw a gorgeous party at Christie’s which was called “Celebrating Ken:  Fashion, Art, and the Ultimate Dream Date”, which featured six of menswear’s sexiest and sleekest designers like Simon Spur, Billy Reid and Michael Bastian and some delicious male models in various scenarios.

The Right Tuft

For whatever reason, I am madly smitten with tufts. I’m not really sure, but it is just one of the facets of glamour for me.
