Preston Bailey Wedding

The guru of wedding design, Preston Bailey, tied the knot last week at midnight in New York’s iconic Empire State Building. Preston’s weddings are always seen as effortless, fashionable and over the top. It is absolutely no wonder that is very own wedding turned out to be the same way.

King Kong Floral StatuePreston Bailey Wedding Getting married at the Empire State Building alone is bragworthy, but what would the New York landmark be without its partner in crime, King Kong? Known for his large floral arrangements of animals and other natural elements, this particular beauty was there to greet guests as they entered the wedding. Not to be outdone by one of his fabulous creations, when it was time to come down the aisle, Preston emerged from what appeared to be a 12 foot bride drenched in orchids and a Reem Acra gown, donning a dapper black tuxedo and carrying a white bouquet.

All white ceremony draped with florals
The ceremony altar as quite regal, with clusters of hanging flowers and crystals. The chair covers gave the same lush look as the florals that were the focal point of the ceremony, tying the look all together. The ceremony altar itself, was draped as guests arrived, to add to the mystery of the affair.

Wedding Cocktail Hour Decor
One thing you could tell, by both the set up and decor, was that preston and Theo wanted their wedding to be gorgeous, but also fun and personal. The hallways and rooms had hanging crystals and beautiful shades of purple florals, but also their favorite images of attending guests.

Gold Hanging Boxes of Chocolates as Wedding FavorsPink centerpieces for cocktail tables
As favors, the couple hung gold boxes from a gold tree of gourmet chocolates. As opposed to having a sit down dinner, they opted for a cocktail party full of delicious fare, including an after-party with breakfast finger foods. As it was a cocktail party, there was no formal seating. Instead, there were high top tables with Chiavari stools and gorgeous cascading arrangements.

Reception Menu for Food
In addition to great entertainment and décor, food makes the party. Playing on famous pairs, their delightfully designed menu (in both the culinary and artistic sense) consisted of what we call “small plates”. These little, but savory, bites are perfect for you to get creative for your cocktail hour or party.

Pink Lighting for Wedding Reception
It was definitely a party atmosphere with a pink wash thrown over the room with speciality lighting. As a special touch, the dance floor displayed orchids, mimicking the floral details of the wedding.

Fashion Monday: Ines Di Santo Spring 2012

Ines DiSanto’s Spring and Summer 2012 trunk show celebrates glam—which I am so very excited about. The gowns range from the very full ball gowns with curve enhancing bodices to sleek bias cut sheaths that mirror Old Hollywood sirens.  If you are looking for a gown, her trunk show should definitely be on the look out for your city.

With each gown as unique as the personalities they were inspired by, Ines’ latest collection ranges from modern glamour to classic elegance. Applying today’s trends along with her signature touches, Ines adds embellishment to luxurious fabrics and delicate treatments like pleating and ruching to dramatic silhouettes. Using unique textured fabrics and sexy slits befitting the red carpet, runway or aisle, Ines’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection is award-worthy.

Word is that beauty Evelyn Lozada, fiancee to Chad Ochocinco is in the talks to have Ines design a custom gown for her delicious upcoming wedding. I can’t wait to see what she chooses!

Fashion Monday: Kim Kardashian Alternative Wedding Dresses!

We were ALL ridiculously excited for Kim Kardashian’s wedding this past weekend and couldn’t wait to see her dress! Even though Kim’s gown was made by family friend, Vera Wang (okay…who wouldn’t LOVE to have a family friend in Vera Wang!?), some of the top powerhouses in bridal fashion wanted to give their interpretations on what the voluptuous beauty would saunter up the aisle in. Who do you think got it right?

  1. ANNE BARGE is known for having impeccable quality both in construction and fit. Anne’s use of pure silk couture fabrics paired with simple clean lines beautifully modernizes vintage couture. With careful attention given to every detail, many of her designs are accented with delicate embroidery and beading.

Anne Barge’s interpretation: “My inspiration was over-the-top romantic drama. The lace was the romance and the drama was the silhouette and three dimensional beading and embroidery.” The elongated mermaid bodice and deep border hem of the gown are ivory French Alencon lace heavily embellished with three dimensional organza petals and beading. The upper portion of the full skirt is pearl silk organza appliquéd with Alencon lace motifs. The hem and chapel train are triple tiers of scalloped border lace. Accented the left shoulder is a corsage of lace, dimensional beading and embroidery which trails asymmetrically across the front of the bodice.

  1. The INES DI SANTO Collection is known for marrying a sculpted, polished bodices with sumptuously layered skirts and romantic detailing. The effect has garnered the brand an eager client base of discerning and celebrity brides. Her well-recognized designs are carried at luxury retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.

Ines Di Santo’s interpretation: Kim Kardashian is a perfect mix of classic with a cutting edge style. Our inspiration when creating this gown was to create something very luxe that represents Kim’s style and sets her apart from every other bride this Silk Satin Organza gown does just that. To dress a curvy body such as Kim’s it is all about accentuating the waist. As per our sketch the beading is accentuating her waist because of how the beading is concentrated at waistline. What makes the gown we have submitted special is the cut out details and different size Swarovski crystals embroidered throughout the bodice. The gown features a detachable train that can be unattached after the ceremony, with a short sexy mini for the reception. myWPEdit Image

  1. JENNIFER SALZMAN: Formerly of Prada and D&G, Jennifer now creates her own line of glamorous, elegant and Italian-inspired dresses. Her use of Swarovski crystals, french lace, ruffled skirts and bubbled tiers create a unique collection perfect for the modern bride. From dramatic tulle princess gowns to the perfect beaded mermaid dress, Jennifer Salzman’s keen eye for fit and proportion continue to set her apart.

Jennifer Salzman’s interpretation: I tried to be true to Kim’s style, which tends to be more sexy and dramatic, but also take into consideration that for her wedding day she may surprise us all. The gown I designed for Kim has a structured bodice and trumpet style skirt that flaunt her fabulous curves. The neckline and bodice are simple so she can add her own jewelry, and the skirt has soft feminine draping with a dramatic billowing train to appeal to her usual sensational gown choices. I added clear crystal beads throughout for some sparkle. Kim has very feminine curves and she is also thin, so she can really play up her curves in a style that hugs her body and flares out below the hip, making her waist look even smaller than it is.

4. CLAIRE PETTIBONEspecializes in ethereal dresses with a playful, vintage look; truly for a bohemian girl who wants to stand apart from the crowd. Claire’s romantic and ultra feminine line incorporates jeweled eyelet lace, silk floral appliques and detailed European trimmings.

myWPEdit Image

Claire Pettibone’s interpretation: Claire used Silk charmeuse which is layered with hand beaded tulle and ribbon roses. Silk ribbon flowers and leaves are scattered throughout, along with Swarovski crystals and pearl accents. This gown has a sweetheart neckline and a mermaid silhouette. A full sweeping train, opulent details and just a touch of sparkle are perfect for glamour-girl Kim. When asked how to dress for Kim’s body type claire answered, “Love your curves, and accent your waist! Try to keep the lines of your gown long and lean (rather than breaking it up say, with a belt) I think this gives an elegance to the curves. The ribcage is usually one of our slimmest areas, so if you have a full bust & hips, you can choose a gown fitted through the high waist to really give an hourglass look. I love to bring focus up to the neckline and face, so why not show a (tasteful) amount of décolleté?!”

From what we heard about this weekend’s nuptials, there were a few wardrobe changes, so personally, I am very excited to see the fashions worn by everyone. Which of the above are your favorite?

I Want a Wedding like…Roselyn Sánchez :: Part Two

We’re back with the rest of our I Want a Wedding like…Roselyn Sánchez post.  Here are some other details from her wedding:

What she did…

Each place setting was embellished with beaded napkin rings, menus and flower blooms.

What you can do…

The same thing!  Nothing spells luxury and personal than to treat each guest to a beautiful place setting.  Make your napkin part of your design, by incorporating napkin rings, chargers, menus and even single blooms, berries or other props.  You can opt to make your napkin functional by using a pocket fold to hold your menus, place cards, flowers, thank you notes or favors.  (BBJ linen, Lendable Linens)

What she did

Roselyn Sanchez white and pink striped wedding cake with orange and yellow orchids

The wedding cake, albeit simple in design and color, was made very dramatic with the beautiful colored flowers, similar to the bridal bouquet.  She also opted to use a non traditional, but very contemporary cake stand, which allows the cake to be showcased.

What you can do…

round wedding cake with purple and blue sugar flowers iris square cake with fondant swag stacked on roses round cake with purple flowers ivory cake with large red flower on top

Your use of flowers can range from using real flowers, sugar paste flowers or a mix of the two.  Additionally, the placement of the flowers can add to the drama of the cake or create drama of its own.  Cascades, flowers atop or even in between tiers are just a few great ways to add this beautiful concept to your wedding cake. Here are some non-pro shots of the wedding prior to setup:

I love these close ups of the actual flowers for the wedding because it shows the great mix of florals. Additionally, the urns are a wonderful example as to different ways you can enhance your venue.  If your venue has a garden or courtyard, and has several decorative urns, pots or stands, consider filling these with your wedding flowers to add to the overall event experience.

Here is a shot of Roselyn’s wedding event team putting together the linens for the ceremony chairs.   She used flowing chair jackets, bands and pads to tie in the rich and light colors in the architecture.

What you can do

pink chair caps and pink chair pads for wedding reception

Don’t wait to show off at your reception with your linens—incorporate them into your ceremony as well.  Go as far as using chair covers at your ceremony if you wish—begin the experience early.   (Top chair cap and jacket by BBJ Linen, second photo Wildflower Linen by Aaron Delesie)

What ever inspiration you draw from this celebrity wedding, remember to add your own unique twist on it…because you are fabulous, too!

I Want A Wedding Like…Roselyn Sánchez

image

Without a Trace star Roselyn Sánchez married last November in a beautifully intimate wedding ceremony and reception that was bursting with color and details.   Her Old World style was reflected in everything from her lush flowers, romantic wedding gown, and so much more.

What she did…

castillo de san cristobal wedding ceremony

The Puerto Rican beauty wed in Old San Juan in front of 250 family and friends at Castillo de San Cristóbal. It was an old Spanish Fort built during the colonization of Puerto Rico, so in some areas it is refurbished and in others you can tell that it is a part of the Puerto Rican cultural history. Instead of pew markers or a carpet of petals, the aisle was lined with rectangular arrangements of deep orange and antique roses coupled with hydrangea.  This works beautifully since naturally the eye starts at the floor and works its way up.  Roselyn’s elegance in all of it simplicity plays off the colors of the old fort. To play up its colors and texture, gentle uplighting was used at the altar.

What you can do

image  image

Find wedding venues in your area that are rich in history like Savannah’s Mansion at Forsyth Park, Brunswick’s Old  City Hall or the gorgeous Mediterranean inspired Ocean Lodge on Saint Simons Island. When your venue has personality, it is much easier to pull from its existing decor and architecture.  While Roselyn’s wedding was outdoors, you can still have the same gorgeous aisle lining arrangements.  You can incorporate your own style by using arrangements on shepherd hooks, columns, or on the ground.  Keeping your colors fluid and design simple to avoid sensory overload.

What she did…

image Roselyn’s bouquet was simple, and on the smaller side when compared to other bridal bouquets.  The ivory and white flowers play up the yellow and orange orchids Adding a little more luxe to her flowers, bouquet jewels enhance the elegant set.

What you can do…

image

Opt for a vibrant color as your impact flower—blues, greens, pinks, or reds, whatever your heart fancies!  Your base flowers should be lighter than your impact flower, in varying shades, textures and sizes.  Opt for berries, shells, or jewels to enhance your bouquet.

What she did…

organza and silk pearl beaded wedding dress    image

While Roselyn’s organza silk beaded dress by Angel Sanchez was very beautiful, even she admitted it was very heavy and hard for her to walk.  During her reception however, she changed into a shorter but equally fabulous dress.
