We Likey: Paperpless Post for Weddings

Screen Shot 2015-08-04 at 5.19.18 PM

Of course, for your wedding  you should send out formal wedding invitations.  However, for certain events like rehearsal dinners, e-vites can be the perfect option for request the presence of some of your favorite people. With destination weddings, some experts contend you should invite everyone who is a guest (read: traveled for)  in your city.  The notion is that you have several people who have traveled long hours and longer distances, so the kind thing to do would be to entertain them (again) and make them feel warm and toasty.

Rubbish.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t do this.  If you can afford it, you totally should.  However, not everyone can  or needs to.  Traditionally, rehearsal dinners were for immediate family (parents, grandparents, siblings) and those in the bridal party.  Seems quaint and small, right? Now, more couples are opting for more casual events that are high energy, laid back, inclusive with the approach of “all who are in town can attend”. In fact, they are calling these fetes “Welcome Parties”; totally nixing the name  “Rehearsal Dinner” altogether.

This is where Paperless Post shows up and shows off.  They have, seriously, the most amazing designs that would make the most formal of your guests swoon.  Additionally, they are very cost effective from sending traditional paper invites (especially if you are inviting your entire guest list) and are more welcoming than ambiguous information on your wedding website. Each digital invitation comes in a beautiful digital envelope in the script, color and liner of your choice.  Paperless Post uses a coin system to purchase invites, and 20 can be purchased for $6 (most designs range from free to 4 coins each).

Aren’t they divine?  And they’re just a small sample of options available.  With designers like Vera Wang, Hello! LuckyJ. Crew and many more, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.  What could possibly make this better?  Well, for the true etiquette sticklers who you feel would move heaven and earth if they didn’t receive a paper invitation, you can purchase paper options to accompany your digital ones.

See? Now everyone’s happy!

We Likey: Bella Figura

We have always been huge fans of Bella Figura . It is something about their heavy papers, defined cuts and opulent fonts that just scream luxury!

The trendsetting company introduced 75 new dazzling invitation designs that are sure to be all the rage for the wedding season.  Their forecast:  Metallic pastels, die-cut shapes and custom calligraphy accents are essential for 2013 weddings.

So what’s new?

—  Die-cuts arrive. Die-cuts are an exciting new embellishment for 2013 –these sophisticated shapes instantly up the elegance factor on any invitation by adding soft curves or bold lines. Bella Figura can also create a distinctive, custom die-cut shape for any occasion for a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

—  New foil colors (including pastels!) Metallics were extremely popular in 2012, and with classic, glamorous weddings making a strong comeback, foil is a style that’s definitely here to stay. 7 new foil colors have been added to Bella Figura’s offerings, including sophisticated neutrals (like pearl, a soft white foil, and tawny, a beautiful taupe foil) as well as lovely pastels (mint! lilac! pink!). For couples looking to make
a statement, foil stamping looks breathtaking when paired with letterpress. And for those who aren’t ready to commit to a lot of shine, adding a foil edge to an invitation is a great way to embellish without going overboard.

—  10 custom calligraphy styles, including Callaway (a rich, formal hand by Sarah Hanna), as well as 6 whimsical styles from Bella Figura’s newest calligrapher, Elizabeth Hardin, are new for 2013. Bella Figura offers over 30 hand calligraphy styles from 7 of the nation’s top calligraphers.

—  Incorporate local touches with new maps and cityscapes. Turn a cityscape or vintage map of a wedding location (or any location!) into a custom envelope liner. Bella Figura’s designers can also create custom maps that coordinate with an invitation design.

I am soooo in love with Swiss Cottage Designs!

Their fresh, vibrant and ultra creative designs brings out the personality of each piece.  From Save-the-Dates, invitations and custom maps, they offer wonderful heartfelt designs that are like a piece of art more than a piece of stationery.

Courtney Jentzen opened Swiss Cottage Designs (based in Brooklyn, NY) in 2010 after years of working in the gift industry as a stationery designer. Drawing insight from her design and illustration background, Courtney incorporates a range of bold looks, artistic trends and color schemes to suit each customer.  To help customers navigate the sometimes overwhelming design options, Courtney engages each and every client to draw inspiration and incorporate their unique style (rustic, vintage, casual elegance) into the design process, often including illustrated images and hand-drawn typography.

Event Vision: Coney Island/Carnival Wedding Cocktail Hour, Part 2

coney island vintage carnival inspired wedding

And we’re back—with more Coney Island/Carnival inspired goodies for your wedding.  We’ve already talked about food and drinks, let’s talk about color!

wedding carnival color palette

I love these colors for this type of wedding—  Pantone’s  Fiery Red (18-1664 TC), Blazing Yellow (12-0643 TC) and Cyan Blue (16-4529 TC).  They are fun, punchy and exciting. While they are vibrant, you can use them sparingly and purposely, such as in your flowers, linens and food.  What about your paper needs for your wedding?  Invites, menus, escort cards, and other fun things can really carry this theme through your event.

vintage carnival invitation by two trick pony

I love these vintage beauties, the Coney Island 1896 Wedding Invitation ::  From Royal Steamline’s  Etsy Shop on the left, and Two Trick Pony’s vintage carnival wedding invitation.  These are fun, but elegantly crafted which doesn’t make your event look it will be at Chuck E. Cheese. The Vintage Glam Blog offers Free Carnival Printables which would make for great accessories at your event.  You can use tickets as your escort cards as well create custom popcorn and peanut bags with your names or wedding logo.

postcard-historyamusementparkscom

If you want to opt for something non traditional for your wedding guest book, look for vintage carnival or Coney Island post cards for your guests to sign like this one from Amusement Park History or these 1949 Coney Island postcards.  Your guests write a message on the back and your designee can send them to you after your honeymoon.  It’s nice to receive them in the mail  and see the love from your wedding guests!

wheelochance game fatcats game party4funcom milk_bottle game

What is a carnival without games?  Your local rental company may have fun games featured above like Wheel O’ Chance, Fat Cats, and Milk Bottle Toss which can make for great fun at your cocktail hour, reception or afterparty. Your wedding guests will be engaged and have a good time.  Don’t be concerned if you aren’t the focus of attention—nothing could replace you!

Of course, you cannot forget about the photobooth!  I love Our Labor of Love’s Smilebooth because it is interactive and so much fun (can’t you hear them laughing?).  Incorporate fun props like sunglasses and hats, but remember to stay true to your theme with fake beards (A la The Bearded Lady),  fake snakes,  swords, and masks.  Have a ball!

With all of these fun ideas, and great inspiration of at Green Wedding Shoes, there is so much to plan and design. Whether you choose to incorporate one or all of these ideas, your party will be an awesome party to remember.
