Party with Me: The Tybee Wedding Chapel Grand Opening

228949_10150257097551615_225266186614_7975039_8064419_n.jpg

Last week, I had the great opportunity to visit Tybee Island, Georgia and participate in the Tybee Wedding Chapel Grand Opening. It was a wonderful experience to visit this seaside town, especially to see the opening of this gorgeous little chapel! Originally built by prized artisans to reflect the look of a turn-of-the-century Baptist chapel for the Miley Cyrus movie, “The Last Song”, it was slated for demolition after filming wrapped. At the last minute, the new owner Stayce Jarrell, saved the Chapel and lovingly repurposed it as a unique, beautiful wedding venue. The renewed Chapel has elevated Tybee Island to a premiere wedding destination where brides and grooms from across the country come to take their vows.

Tybee Wedding Chapel for weddings and events

The Tybee Chapel is absolutely STUNNING! Stayce has taken every care into all the details, creating a unique space filled with romance, history and timeless beauty. As part of the Grand Opening, she invited us to join her and Party Planner David Tutera as they “Cut the Ribbon and Cut the Cake” to celebrate the opening of the Chapel. What made the event extraordinary is that it was something that could appeal to all of the senses– David conceptualized different vignette motifs, which the members of the special event trade translated into flowers, food, and decor. It was completely amazing to see how their creativity interpreted his vision.

But it wasn’t all work and no play– there was great food, music and laughter as at any event industry event! It was great to meet with so many talented vendors, some of my twitter followers and great innovators in the industry. I had a chance to hug and chat with Matt and Ginny— the AWESOME couple who raised the bar with Matt’s wedding proposal which was a movie trailer. They are SO much fun and I cannot wait for their wedding!

The food was absolutely DIVINE! Everyone knows my adoration of cakes and cocktails, so I made it a point to try the “Chapeltini”, which was a melange of Peach Schnapps, rum, strawberries, and peach nectar. It took everything in me not to just scoot out with the punch bowl! Not to mention, Gigi’s Cupcakes were there with adorable mini smoothie shaped cupcakes and other confections! I loved this peacock cake as well as some of the passed hors d’oeuvres like bacon wrapped dates, seared ahi tuna, duck confi and SO much more. I was in foodie heaven!

I also had a chance to meet Carlie of TravelPod an her mom, Chris who were my housemates (Top left). They were absolutely hysterical! I loved hearing all about Carlie’s travels, so be sure to check out her blog! The Tybee Chapel owner Stayce Jarrell (Top right) is an absolute visionary with everything she has done to transform the chapel and create a blank canvas of a space that can welcome any event and be a beautiful backdrop. Additionally, she is beautiful, dresses divinely and is a gracious host! I look forward to working with her in the future. It was so very nice also to chat with Diann Valentine, the celebrity event planner and host of the new wedding show “I Do Over” (Bottom left) as well as FINALLY meet the man simply known as “Big George” on Tybee Island of North Beach Grill (Bottom right). Not only is George a ridiculously terrific cook, but he is an artistic genius! I loved his low country vignette above that was laced with antique mason jars, hydrangeas and candles!

And I must give a shout out to my date, Nicole who helped me capture some awesome images to bring back and was the perfect company! We had so much fun and I cannot wait to do it again!

The next day after the VIP cocktail party, we arrived back to the gorgeous chapel for the ribbon cutting with David Tutera:

The Tybee Wedding Chapel is a beautiful venue– if you are ever in the area, be sure to check it out.  It would be the perfect backdrop to your destination wedding in Coastal Georgia while keeping the beach town feel and ambience.  You’ll fall in love with the flooring, architecture and spacious grounds!

Enamorada: Jessica + Scott

When I saw this adorable Savannah engagement shoot shot by Brooke Roberts, I felt so at ease and carefree. I know that Jessica + Scott must have, too.  I love being completely focused on them while in the midst of one of Savannah’s most beautiful landmarks, Forsyth Park.  They were so relaxed with each other, you feel like that they were the only ones in this beautiful city.

Guest Blogger: Take His Breath Away Bridal Looks by Jules de Jesus

Beautiful Bridal Shoot by Allison Reisz Makeup by Dollface by Jules in Savannah Georgia

When thinking of your wedding day, most think of how they will look.  Being timeless, flawless, and gorgeous is all a must for any bride.  But what exactly does that mean?  I’ll try to explain and hopefully help you with your makeup concerns.  Who am I?  My name is Jules De Jesus.  I’m a Professional Makeup Artist and Founder of Dollface by Jules.  I have well over 13 years of pro experience specializing in bridal makeup.  I have had the honor of being apart of so many weddings.  I simply love what I do!  Enough about me, let’s talk wedding day makeup.

So what does being “timeless” mean?  Basically, you don’t want to follow trends for your special day.  If you don’t normally wear red lipstick, don’t try it on your big day.  Stay true to your self by looking like you on your day.  Your fiancé already thinks you are the most beautiful girl in the world, so try to concentrate on being a flawless version of yourself.  So with that being said, let’s move to being flawless.

Dollface by Jules Makeup by Jules de Jesus Savannah Georgia Wedding Make up Artist

How does one look flawless?  I’ll tackle this in two parts.  First, start with some sort of beauty routine before your wedding day.  Make sure to exfoliate, moisturize, & use SPF 30+ every day for beautiful skin. This way your skin will look great and less “covering up” will be needed. Also, always have a trial run.  It’s best for you and your makeup artist (MUA). Your MUA will need to see your skin in person to make proper recommendations. For my brides, I often give personalized skin care tips during the trial. Have your trial as close to the wedding day as possible. Your skin will be almost exactly what it will be on the big day.

Second, hire a professional.  A Pro MUA will apply the same techniques and tricks they use on models for photo shoots. This means you won’t need to panic over dark circles or pesky blemishes. While models may look amazing in magazines, you can be sure they don’t show up on set looking picture perfect. Makeup artists are trained to use cosmetics to create the illusion of flawless skin.

Not only will you look flawless, but you will feel gorgeous.  Take time out for you, being pampered and letting pros do what they do goes along way in taking away extra stress.  My partner in beauty, Tiffony Simpson of Ony Salon, and I work very hard on creating the best experience for our brides.  We are always honored to be a part of every special day and wedding. We will try our very best to make the experience with us as memorable, professional, & as fun as possible.

Be timeless, flawless, and feel gorgeous.  It’s your day to be the belle of the ball, so do it right!

I Want A Wedding Like…Roselyn Sánchez

image

Without a Trace star Roselyn Sánchez married last November in a beautifully intimate wedding ceremony and reception that was bursting with color and details.   Her Old World style was reflected in everything from her lush flowers, romantic wedding gown, and so much more.

What she did…

castillo de san cristobal wedding ceremony

The Puerto Rican beauty wed in Old San Juan in front of 250 family and friends at Castillo de San Cristóbal. It was an old Spanish Fort built during the colonization of Puerto Rico, so in some areas it is refurbished and in others you can tell that it is a part of the Puerto Rican cultural history. Instead of pew markers or a carpet of petals, the aisle was lined with rectangular arrangements of deep orange and antique roses coupled with hydrangea.  This works beautifully since naturally the eye starts at the floor and works its way up.  Roselyn’s elegance in all of it simplicity plays off the colors of the old fort. To play up its colors and texture, gentle uplighting was used at the altar.

What you can do

image  image

Find wedding venues in your area that are rich in history like Savannah’s Mansion at Forsyth Park, Brunswick’s Old  City Hall or the gorgeous Mediterranean inspired Ocean Lodge on Saint Simons Island. When your venue has personality, it is much easier to pull from its existing decor and architecture.  While Roselyn’s wedding was outdoors, you can still have the same gorgeous aisle lining arrangements.  You can incorporate your own style by using arrangements on shepherd hooks, columns, or on the ground.  Keeping your colors fluid and design simple to avoid sensory overload.

What she did…

image Roselyn’s bouquet was simple, and on the smaller side when compared to other bridal bouquets.  The ivory and white flowers play up the yellow and orange orchids Adding a little more luxe to her flowers, bouquet jewels enhance the elegant set.

What you can do…

image

Opt for a vibrant color as your impact flower—blues, greens, pinks, or reds, whatever your heart fancies!  Your base flowers should be lighter than your impact flower, in varying shades, textures and sizes.  Opt for berries, shells, or jewels to enhance your bouquet.

What she did…

organza and silk pearl beaded wedding dress    image

While Roselyn’s organza silk beaded dress by Angel Sanchez was very beautiful, even she admitted it was very heavy and hard for her to walk.  During her reception however, she changed into a shorter but equally fabulous dress.

What you can do…

Look for other dresses that can express your fun, ready-to-party side for you to wear after your first dance like this BCBG MAX AZRIA Laser Cut Sheath Dress or this super fun Fringe Mini Dress by La Rok.

10 Tips for a Great Wedding Venue Visit, Part 2

The Mansion at Forsyth in Savannah, Georgia

Welcome back!

Last week, we talked about the first of the five tips for a great wedding venue visit.  This week, we’ll round up our last bit of tips that will help you choose a wedding reception or wedding ceremony location with ease and confidence.

  1. Become a complete space cadet.  One of the most important features that makes your potential site a viable choice is its ability to accommodate all of your guests.  You will want to inquire into how many guests can comfortably fit at the venue, because size matters.  Can you have the ceremony and reception at the same place?  Are there options for inclement weather?  If there are tenting options  for outdoor weddings due to space or weather concerns, how much extra is this option in addition to the costs of the rental?  Some venues will require you to book an additional space as your backup—be prepared to factor this into your budget when comparing costs later.  If there are multiple rooms at the venue, ask how many other events are booked on your wedding day.
  2. Gain absolute clarity on the role of your “coordinator”.  Many venues erroneously give their on-site catering manager or coordinator the misnomer of “wedding coordinator”.  This gives most brides the impression that their “venue comes with a coordinator”.  In most cases, this is true and false, and causes much stress and frustration for those on-site coordinators who deal with questions that they cannot and should not deal with.  The coordinator is on hand to answer your questions in terms of your wedding ceremony and or reception, not the entirety of your wedding.  Some on-site coordinators do not stay at the wedding the entire time to execute or oversee, so these will be questions you will want answers to prior to booking your venue.  If their duties are limited, ask for recommendations for wedding coordinators that can work with you on a day-of-wedding level.
  3. A matter of convenience. Since you and Mr. Fabuluxe know your guest list the best, consider your guests in your decision.  How large is the parking lot?  Is their a fee for valet parking?  How far is parking from the venue?  Take note of the number of restrooms  and their locations– compute if it will be convenient for your guests.  If there are only two stalls in the bathroom, your guests will spend more time in line than at the wedding reception.  If you have elderly or handicapped guests, make sure that the exits are easily accessible, with ramps, if necessary.  If your venue is a resort, ask if there is shuttle or cart service to get guests to the main hotel areas.
  4. Is there room at the Inn?  Ask ahead if there is a changing or private room for you and your groomsmen if you will have your wedding ceremony there as well.  When planning your timeline, having an onsite room will be most convenient for you. If it doesn’t, it gives you notice to pad your travel time in the the wedding day timeline. This room could also be a perfect hideaway if you would like a private moment with your new husband in the midst of the festivities.
  5. Don’t Go Solo.  Have your fiance, maid/matron of honor, parents or wedding planner attend your venue visit with you. It is good to have a second opinion—especially if you are madly in love with a specific venue.  Another person’s point of view will help you see things you had not or considered.
