Great Gatsby Wedding Inspiration
With Leonardo DiCaprio’s new Great Gatsby movie coming soon in theaters and Boardwalk Empire still going strong, you can expect to see a lot of Roaring ’20s inspired weddings coming up this year. Translating this age of indulgence and decadence into a design offers you many options to make your event unique and fun.
Wedding Gown
These gowns from Cymbeline are absolutely to die for. While being a glamorous homage to this era, it still embraces some of the modern lines of contemporary fashion.
Vera Wang‘s White Label features deco details, tassel trims, beading and drop wasists, while still giving off an ethereal feel.
Beauty
Go all the way! Whether you use finger waves or loose waves adorned with a brooch or feather, these styles shout for attention. Not wanting to go that formal? Consider a faux bob that frames your face and features.
Wedding Invitations and Save the Dates
Here is an opportunity to tell/show your guests exactly the type of wedding they are in for. These not only set the tone for your wedding, but allows you to flesh out details of the theme that you love and want to carry throughout– the art deco shapes and patterns, fonts, colors, etc.
Flowers
Take a cue from the flappers and add feathers and/or brooches to your bouquet. Go for lush florals like peonies, orchids and hydrangeas with a cascading design.
The Wedding Cake
I love these art deco style wedding cakes! I love the use of color, metal tones and bling that make it a bit more modern.
The Experience
The theme is the overall concept or inspiration for your event. Making it come to life is the experience. With period piece themes, you actually want to transport your guests into that era through decor, music and lighting. This is experience can be really easy to duplicate with simple, quality linens in simple colors. Feather centerpieces would make a wonderful addition to any table, including cocktail tables as they add drama and glamour. Crystal or tinsel-type curtains do the same to cordon off areas. Don’t like feathers? Consider leafy palms or clusters of orchids in tall containers.
Go interactive! Hire models, waitstaff or get friends to act as cigarette girls to greet guests with seating chart, escort cards, hors d’oeuvres.
If you’re going for more of the Great Gatsby feel, consider having white jacket waitstaff serve your cocktails during the cocktail hour or champagne during your toast.
The black and white dance floor with the right lighting could totally transform your event space.
Naturally, A central point of a 20s speakeasy was the bar. Here are some fun ways to customize yours to tie in with the experience:
Create vintage style poster of available drinks, as seen above. Include your wedding date, names and any funny stories about the drinks and what they mean to you. It makes a great conversation starter as guests are waiting in line or enjoying the cocktail hour.
Have your bar go vintage! Stage a few prohibition style boxes or crates on or behind the bar full of dark bottles and jugs. Pair them with custom vintage labeled bottles and mix and match jars for an authentic feel.
This is a great place to start for inspiration for your Great Gatsby, Roaring 20s style wedding!
