Lovely Lane Chapel Wedding :: Katie & Will

I just realized that I had never shared the beautiful pictures from Katie and Will’s Saint Simons Wedding at Lovely Lane Chapel.  This was my first wedding with the ever amazing Savannah wedding photographer Michael Edde from Beacon Photo o.  Mike is such an awesome photographer– you can just tell how comfortable his brides are with him from their wedding pictures.  I love him because he is my partner-in-crime for the reception, singing songs as we pass each other in between events in the timeline.  He finds some of the most unique places to take the most romantic shots.  If you can’t tell, I’m a total fan.

I had so much fun at Katie and Will’s wedding, which was a true reflection of the fun time I had planning with Katie and her mom, Francie.  Together we planned a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception at the Heritage Center.  One of my all time favorite things was Katie’s beautiful dress, which was the inspiration for Katie’s seven tier wedding cake.

Another highlight of the day that I know Katie’s mom and I waited for with baited breath:  finally viewing Katie’s beautiful veil and the hands ceremony.  There was not a dry in the house during this intimately touching exchange between the two of them.  Mike caught every image so beautifully!

Lovely Lane Chapel Wedding on St. Simons

St Simons Wedding Ceremony Lovely Lane Chapel Epworth

One of the  most beautiful wedding ceremony venues on St. Simons Island has to be Lovely Lane Chapel on the Epworth by the Sea campus. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s stark white vintage chapel is a beautiful backdrop for those looking forward to exchanging vows in a church for their destination wedding.  With capacity of 150 inside the chapel, it can easily accommodate the average sized destination wedding that comes to the area.

Many fall in love with the architecture outside of this historic chapel, and use its quaint doors to showcase their personalities or themes by hanging ornamented wreaths, moss initials and more.

There are plenty of ways to begin your ascent into the chapel– this comes from the side, which is one of my favorites. It allows the bride and her parents a few private moments before walking down the aisle.  Photo by Jason Travis

The inside of the chapel is equally amazing.   With the vibrant stained glass windows behind the couple, it truly does make your wedding images striking.  While the chapel itself is rather dark in its color palette, it adds to its personality.  Make sure your photographer knows about this so that s/he can plan accordingly.

The surrounding oaks and spanish moss which has become a staple to our area are in vast abundance on the grounds.  If you are looking for some places to take pictures outdoors among the natural environment, it truly doesn’t get any better.  If you are looking for an outdoor ceremony should your guest list go over the allotted capacity of the chapel, many brides and grooms have been happy to have their ceremonies outside of the chapel in front of its doors, using the stone pave way as an aisle.

Happy Planning!

Real St. Simons Wedding :: Whitney + Ben

We had the pleasure of working with Whitney + Ben for their beautiful, yet whimsical French countryside inspired wedding on St. Simons Island.  After a week long of festivities that included welcome parties, the couple exchanged vows at the Lovely Lane Chapel on St. Simons Island.  At the chiming of the hour, bridesmaids donned in black Audrey Hepburn-esque cocktail dresses walked down the aisle preceding Whitney’s arrival.

Many from Ben’s family flew in from France to attend the wedding, so this served as a mini reunion for his family, as well as an opportunity for Whitney to meet her extended family.  The couple danced to “Zydeco Gris Gris” for their first dance, which kicked of the festivities New Orleans style.

Ben’s family is French, so much of the personal touches incorporated his French heritage, Whitney’s education in New Orleans and many of her own family traditions.  For example, Whitney’s maternal grandparents owned a blueberry and honey farm. Small jars of honey from the farm were given as additional favors and served a double purpose as escort cards.  Much of the menu included Coastal local favorites, as well as French and New Orleans inspired dishes like duck confit and shrimp étouffée.  Their signature drink was the “Golden Aisle“, a play on the wedding’s location (the Golden Isles) and wedding festivities, which consisted of Firefly (Sweet Tea Vodka) to represent the Georgia inspiration and Perrier, to combine the French.  Ben is also a graphic designer and designed all of the signage for the tables, bars, escort card tags, programs, and invitations which are inspired by an old Oak that sits outside of the St. Simons Casino.
