Saint simons jekyll island wedding guidePhoto by Once Like a Spark

Many couples come here each season to exchange “I Do’s” with their feet in the sand, in a historic cottage, beachside villa or one of our other beautiful locations.  Destination weddings take a lot of work and planning. Google and Pinterest are your friends, but even the vast results of wedding reception venues, wedding photographers and more– it can be overwhelming.  If you aren’t from the area, planning can appear to be daunting and even intimidating if you don’t know where to start. Our Saint Simons Island wedding infographic is a great place to start at a glance, but chances are you are looking for a bit more information if you are considering a trip to the area for your wedding.  We’ve prepared a mini e-book that should help answer major questions about where to start, who to hire and finding out which island is best for you.  It’s a quick read and will get you prepared for some big decisions you’ll have to make.

We are so very excited to announce our newest baby at Cocktails and Details!

Being a Saint Simons wedding planner, we  have planned all types of weddings, worked with some of the best wedding photographers and designed with talented wedding florists in the area. We also know how hard it is to plan a destination wedding in Saint Simons Island or Jekyll Island being far away. You are struck with so many questions:

  • Who is the best wedding photographer in Saint Simons Island?
  • How do you have a Jekyll Island Beach Wedding?
  • What should you look for in a wedding caterer?
  • What Saint Simons Island wedding venue is perfect for me?

We’ve taken a lot of the guesswork and stress out of planning a wedding in the Golden Isles, with The Little Blue Wedding Book.  This sweet little book outdoes any preferred vendor list you will receive from wedding venues that tend to be outdated and sparse.  It also goes beyond what any online directory can give you.   It tells you which vendor would be perfect for you, which hotels are in close proximity to create your room blocks and so much more.

Jekyll Island Wedding: Anna & Jamie

Planning Anna and Jamie’s Jekyll Island wedding was amazing.  We worked closely with Anna and her mom to create some that was truly reflective of the couple: relaxed, casual and fun.  One of the most important things to Anna’s family was the inclusion  of her grandparents beautiful antiques and custom pieces.  With a backdrop of the gorgeous Villa Ospo as a wedding venue, everything tied very well together.

For the wedding ceremony, Anna lovingly wore her grandmother’s wedding gown and looked absolutely stunning for her first look under the oaks with Jamie.  Just a few hours later, she surprised him by walking in to his favorite song after exiting from a vintage Rolls Royce.

For the reception, Anna wanted something that didn’t look “too put together or too stuffy”.  As opposed to regular centerpieces, we incorporated vintage books, oil lamps and eclectic vases filled with a casual grouping of florals.  Each table had photos of the couple through out there lives, and these were in abundance: Anna’s mom and Jamie’s mom are best friends and were pregnant at the same time.

The gorgeous Villa Ospo is one of my favorite wedding venues on Jekyll Island that most don’t know about.  from it’s beautiful courtyards and sprawling yards, it is definitely a favorite wedding location in Millionaire’s Village.

Cathleen + Ashish | Jekyll Island Wedding Planner

Working with Cathleen and Ashish was such a privilege and honor.  The two did such a wonderful job of combining their personalities, faiths and families for their wedding.  We came in to produce and coordinate their gorgeous Hindu-Christian wedding at the Jekyll Club’s Crane ornate Crane Cottage, which was filled with many beautiful ceremonies and traditions, vibrant colors, music and delicious foods!  Here are a few shots from some of the festivities courtesy of Jacksonville wedding photographer, Deanne Dunlop:

You can see more of the wedding details in their wedding video from Kinnetic Productions.

Their wedding was an absolute best– filled with so much fun and memories.  I think my favorite part of the entire day was the look on Ashish’s face when he got to see Cathleen’s post-wedding surprise for him:  an afterparty, with nothing but Taco bell to eat.  Taco Bell is one of Ashish’s favorite vices, the only problem was as Cathleen and I plotted this surprise in the weeks prior to the wedding, I had the WORSE Taco Bell cravings.  Subsequently, I ended up becoming the mayor of my local Taco Bell on Foursquare very quickly : )  Cathleen was such a sweet bride:  since their wedding day fell on my birthday, she gifted me with the bottom tier of her wedding cake.  A woman after my own heart!

Planning Your Destination Wedding in Saint Simons and Jekyll Island

If you’ve never been to our area—you are truly in for a treat with our islands, Saint Simons, Jekyll Island, Sea Island and Little Saint Simons Island.  Tucked away off of the Georgia Coast, is the perfect getaway without “actually” going away.  These islands are perfect for those who love the concept of a destination wedding, but want to make sure that their guests are able to attend their wedding without spending a lot of money for travel.  Each island offers something for everyone—Jekyll Island is a quiet, natural island full of beauty and history. It is the home to the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel, the al fresco Beachview Club, as well as the quaint Villas by the Sea with Straton Hall, and the large beachside Jekyll Island Convention CenterSaint Simons Island is a true vacation island??home to the historic seaside dance club turned uber resort King and Prince, luxurious Ocean Lodge, other sprawling estates like Villa de Suenos and several boutiques and restaurants.  Sea Island  is home to the ultra exclusive Cloister that is an experience all its own.

With all these options, I’ll share some tips on planning your destination wedding here in Coastal Georgia:

  • Enlist the help of a planner.  A planner will be able to steer you to the perfect vendors according to your budget, event vision and style.  It’s great for you to have what we call “boots on the ground” to work as a liaison for you and your vendors—share your likes , dislikes and event vision.  Your planner will most likely work with many of the local vendors as well as have a list of those that travel to the area.
  • Get to know your vendors ahead of time.  With the help of the internet, you can research your vendors before you come to the area.  This means checking out their rating on sites like Wedding Wire or Project Wedding  from previous couples.  We’ve listed some local wedding pros that use Twitter and it might be helpful for you to read their blogs or Facebook business pages. This gives you the opportunity to get to know them before you meet you visit the area.
  • Make a planning trip to the area. Trust me, you’ll fall in love with the area. If you haven’t narrowed down your choices on a venue, plan to spend one day on one island and the next on the other. Be prepared to take some time off—with our area being a destination wedding area, most of your event pros are working on Fridays and Saturdays, and their offices close on Sundays and Monday.
  • Experience the area.  Take as many pictures as possible and visit some of the sights— like the St. Simons Lighthouse, Downtown Brunswick and sandy beaches of Jekyll Island.  Your guests will rely on this information during their stay, so it will be helpful for you to have information about what’s nearby, the must-sees and dos, as well as some places to catch some rays, enjoy some southern cooking or a martini and good music.

These tips should get you started with your upcoming wedding Saint Simons, Jekyll Island or Sea Island.  We hope to work with you soon!

Gorgeous Kellie and Colin are Getting Married

Ok, so nevermind the fact that Kellie is super beautiful.  You know, one of those girls that you can’t stand because she has on no makeup and looks like a doll. LOL  I am so glad that I have the opportunity to work with this uber-bride! She’s creative, talented and has great style.

They are using that AWESOME photographer, Scarlett Lillian, who will also shoot their wedding at the Crane Cottage at the Jekyll Island Club. These shots were taken during Georgia-Florida Weekend while Kellie and Colin were vacationing on Amelia Island.  Scarlett is amazing!
