{Papier Tuesday} Gourmet Invitations

When I was blessed to attend and speak at Eventology, one of the sponsors was Gourmet Invitations. I was so impressed with place cards, escort cards and other materials Tifany contributed, I couldn’t wait to feature her for Papier Tuesday.  While looking for different sets to feature for this blog post, I was really impressed with the many ideas and styles that Gourmet Invitations offers. Be sure to check out the Gourmet Invitations Blog, as you will see that each set has its own individual story.  I loved reading each one, as it became apparent how the story influenced the concept of the design.  It was great to see how Tifany brought that out and truly made those ideas flow into the suites she created.

I love how Tifany’s creativity is never pigeon-holed into one particular design.  She is able to recreate the event vision through paper before your eyes and have it flow through out the entire invitation suite, menus, seating charts and other cards. From vintage to modern, romantic to energetic, there is no limit to what Gourmet Invitations can inspire.

Papier Tuesday :: The Stationery Guides

This week’s feature isn’t necessarily stationery company, but a collection of stationery experts to assist you with your stationery needs.  From showers to invites, the Stationery Guides give practical advice about choosing the right papers, designs, and themes.  Because all of the guides are active paper professionals, you will see a myriad of ideas and concepts that could be easily applied to your wedding or event, like invitation inspired cakes or the difference between custom designed and personalized invitations.  And how could I forget—they share some of their great designs too!

Here are some of the ones I love:

:: Shakespeare’s Bride ::

:: Feterie ::

:: Shimmer Studios ::

What’s even better is that each day is dedicated to something specific over at the Stationery Guides—so you won’t be overwhelmed with information overload.  Check them out and get inspired!

{Papier Tuesday} Luscious Verde

I am a paperphile.

When I saw Luscious Verde online, I was so impressed with the designs and concepts of their invitations.  When i was blessed enough to receive samples, well, it was pretty much over for me.  I am in love with Luscious Verde’s work!  Just look at the name—that in itself is pure fabulousness.

The modern elegance is a breath fo fresh air to some of the constantly overplayed designs that have saturated the stationery market as of late.  The heavy stock, classic designs, and handcrafted touches make you feel like you are holding a work of art instead of a mere wedding invitation.  They are all so refined—perfect for the couple who wants their personality to shine through.  Luckily for you, they are carried in several retail outlets across the country for you to see these gorgeous invites in person. But definitely take a moment to get to know the wonderful ladies at LV. As a mom, I loved their story, as well as the way they give back each month to the community.  Moreover, in addition to their recycling and giving back efforts, they have developed HOOT—which creates the most dynamic designs with post-consumer waste paper, which is better for the environment (learn more about HOOT)

They were even sweet enough to send me some handcrafted thank you cards—and a pirate notepad that my little ones have confiscated to leave random ransom demands in my work tote… all signed “Captin Jack Sparro”

Thank you again, Luscious Verde team for sharing your wonderful designs with me and I can’t wait to share them with our brides!

PS—be sure to check out their blog and enter their $5,000 custom stationery giveaway!

Operation: Recessionista Series {$5,000 Wedding Bailout} :: Invites

So, you have only $5000 for your entire wedding budget.  Can you still have everything you want?  Everything you need to have to pull off a beautiful event?  With Operation: Recessionista, we’ll show you how to approach your planning, budget and overall event vision, without compromising your special day or having to rely on family and friends to get things done.  Instead, we will rely on ingenuity, DIY, With each Operation: Recessionista segment, we will form a budget with you, break it down and give you suggested resources to make it fabulous.  This week, we will talk about your invites.

Budget: $200

Everything about your wedding will be intensive upon your guest list number. When you are working with only $5,000, you should look to keep your guest list numbers lowTo be completely honest—ditch the ego and the need to show off.  There is no way you can have a wedding with all of the laced details with this amount of money without something missing something.    That being said, our hypothetical guest list is no more than fifty people.  Just because you have a budget of $200, doesn’t mean you cannot have gorgeous invites.  Enter:  BRIDES Chocolate Pocket Invites.  Created by BRIDES (yes, the magazine people!) and sold at Michaels stores nationwide, the kit is all you need:  beauty without breaking the bank.  It comes with:

  • Includes printable invites, response cards, ribbon, jackets, address labels and seals to make 30

  • Response card and envelope fits in invite jacket

  • Just "wrap" invite in ribbon jacket, seal, label and send

    The kits retail for $34.95 apiece, but can be scored for much lower if you are able to find a Michaels coupon.  There are other colors in this same design:  Black and White and Silver and White (note that you can get different styles as well for a similar price).  You can print these out and and they will be a great touch with your wedding. Try to find some standard colors and add your own signature color—replace ribbon if necessary.  For other beautiful DIY invitations that are also in this same price range, try Target, who also carries a retail Jean M line.  Another one of my personal favorites are Uniquity Invitations.  These beautiful templates allow you customize them your way, just be sure to price out your paper and envelopes to stay within your budget.  Depending on your left over budget or what you decide to do for your invites, you may choose to forego the save-the-dates.

    Let’s total it out:

    BRIDES invites $34.95 x 2; inc any taxes:  $74.95

    Canceled 2 oz Stamps x 2 books of 20, inc. taxes: $12.80 (We say only 40 stamps, as we will assume that some of your guests will be invited as couples)

    Canceled 1 oz Stamps x 2 books of 20, inc. taxes: $16.93 (see above)

    Wedding Photo Thank You Cards (set of 50) inc. taxes:  $23.98

    Ink Cartridges (if needed) inc. taxes:  $23.98

    Total:  $152.64                 Remaining budget:  $47.36

    Stay tuned for next week, when we talk about your ceremony and reception sites.

  • Weddings in Toile-light

    Toile is becoming the next wedding sensation in the upcoming seasons. With the Baroque Marie Antoinette trend still going strong, toile is making one heck of a comeback. It is everywhere: your invitations, your linens, even your dress! What’s great about it is that it can be done in a sophisticated, yet modern way.

    Modern Toile wedding invitation by Wedding Paper Divas
    Galvanized Toile Planter Centerpiece by Ideal Favors
    Toile Wedding Cake by Tiers of Joy in Shreveport, Louisiana
    Personalized Mint Tins by My Wedding Favors
    Toile CD Covers by Bliss Weddings
    Apple Garden Toile by BBJ Linen

    As you can see, it comes in different colors (black, blue, red, pink, and green) and several designs. Some toile is elaborate with its scenery and detail, while others consist of flourishes and floral design. With toile, the only thing that limits you is your imagination.
