Fashion Monday: Rent the Runway Expands to Bridal Fashions

navy blue sapphire bridesmaid dress-- halter, one shoulder, A-line

Rent the Runway, the leading online destination for dress and accessory rentals, continues its rapid expansion with Rent the Runway Weddings, a natural next step in the online rental business.  The new site will cater to the bride, her bridesmaids, and wedding guests by offering exclusive bridesmaid collections, bridal accessories, and styling services.  The bridesmaid collections have been designed exclusively for Rent the Runway Weddings by top designers Badgley Mischka, Robert Rodriguez and Nicole Miller.  Additional non-exclusive styles will be available from Shoshanna and Calypso.  To celebrate the launch, Rent the Runway will be offering a week’s worth of prizes from brands such as Fresh Cosmetics, Spanx, and Blueprint Cleanse.

Jenny Fleiss, President and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway stated, “Bridesmaid dresses are the quintessential dress women only wear once.  With Rent the Runway Weddings, we’ll finally solve the ‘27 Dresses’ problem.”

Each designer’s bridesmaid collection will offer up to four styles in up to four seasonal colors, allowing the bride to mix-and-match a selection of bridesmaid dresses best suited to her bridal party.  Brides will also have the opportunity to personalize her bridesmaid dresses with optional embellishments such as jeweled belts and sashes.  Bridesmaid dress rentals will start at $65 and include a one-day fitting in addition to an 8-day rental period.

Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway stated, “We found on average that each bride was buying up to six dresses for all occasions surrounding her wedding.  As a result, we’ve made a portion of the site dedicated to helping the bride find dresses for all of these events with personal recommendations from our RTR Stylists.”

For the bride, Rent the Runway Weddings will offer dress and accessory rentals for all occasions surrounding the wedding, including the engagement party, bachelorette party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, and honeymoon.  While the website will not offer wedding gown rentals, an extensive selection of accessories will be available for the wedding day from top jewelry designers Badgley Mischka, Miriam Haskell and Ciner, among others.  Wedding accessory rentals will start at $10.

After the wedding is over, you may want to check out fashions from DKNY for the honeymoon! They are versatile and can also be worn for dressier occasions or work.

Fashion Monday: Thread Social

Priscilla of Boston is partnering with contemporary label Thread Social to launch a collection of special occasion dresses. The collection will debut in late June at
Priscilla of Boston salons located in Philadelphia, PA, Scottsdale, AZ and San Jose, CA, with plans to expand to additional locations in the fall.

The collection consists of nine silhouettes, all boasting the femininity and versatility for which both Thread Social and Priscilla of Boston are known and loved. With styles short and long, striped and solid, each style is as varied as the woman who will wear it: A black and gold polka-dotted swingy dress screams easy ‘50s glam, while a softly striped silk cotton gown gives new meaning to casual chic. Classic Thread Social details, such as ruffles and bows, appear throughout the collection, as do some of the label’s beloved silhouettes, including the popular one-shoulder style.

Thread Social’s appeal to the young and spirited fashionista will add a new dimension to our current collection of brands.”

We think these would make fabulous, unconventional bridesmaids dresses or to make your debut at your rehearsal!

Online shopping has revolutionized everyday life, and your wedding is not excluded from its goodness.  Now with eDressMe, the premier website for dresses for all occasions, has offered tips for choosing the best dress to wear as a guest for every type of wedding.  These, in our opinion, even work fabulously for bridesmaids dresses as well.

Black Tie Affairs – Slip on that snazzy cocktail dress you have been waiting to wear because for a black tie affair you can wear a very dressy short gown.

Destination Weddings– If you are dealing with a venue of sun and sand, opt for light and flowing fabrics in bohemian prints or vibrantly graceful colors.

Garden Ceremony– A short colorful dress or a beautiful print will look wonderful against the backdrop of nature. Avoid anything too dressy or embellished and stick to comfortable and playful.
