Splurge Vs. Steal: The Earrings

I heart shopping.  I know, what woman doesn’t? But I really heart shopping.  Many praises and chocolate martinis to whomever introduced this “tab” feature into the internet browsers, because now I can shop everywhere at the same time. (I am infamous for finding a deal)  Enter: The Splurge Vs. Steal section of the blog.

Ever see something uber-sweet for your wedding, and you mosey on to the back of the magazine or the fine print to find that it costs approximately 1 first born male child and 2 kidneys?  Yes, honey, we have all been there.  Have no fear, your friendly neighborhood wedding planner is here. Let’s see what’s in store for this week:

Splurge:  These beautiful 18 karat white gold earrings, set with blue topaz and diamonds are from Laura Munder.  Aren’t they beautiful?  Laura Munder Fine Jewelry carries beautiful rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and brooches.  I am a big fan of the gorgeous cocktail rings.  The cuts and designs are so artful and intricate, that you happen to fall in love with them.  Her beauties have been featured in many a bridal mag.  At blog time, the price for these earrings were not available, but you can check for locations or contact them here.

Steal:  These beauties are from Emitations.  They are called Aasia’s Azure Blue Pear Drop CZ Earrings.  You can save 38%  when you purchase them on the Emitations site, as they are now on sale for $49.99.  These are similar to the ones worn by Jennifer Garner, as shown at the left. Emitations offers affordable designer imitation jewelry– some inspired by celebrity looks.

Trashy Brides

All of you know that I heart Mark Eric of the Trash the Dress phenomenon. Well, ME has done it again– trashing The New York Times!  The New York Times has done a great feature on trashing the dress and features some of ME’s work!  (The photo to the right was done by John Michael Cooper, the Father of Trashing the Dress “movement”).

Go Inside

Inside Weddings My favorite Blue Orchid, Liene, says “If it’s in the bridal magazines, it’s already out.” This is true…it seems like a majority of the bridal publications have all the same ads, articles, questions, etc. but are trying so hard to be different. Thank goodness before my flight I picked up some wedding sugar wrapped in glossy pages. If you are looking for truly innovative ideas and content, check out Inside Weddings. If on the off chance your local bookstore doesn’t carry it, you can subscribe online (or even see if you can score a few issues on eBay).

Gitchi Gitchi Ya Ya Da Da…

No, I’m not practicing my baby talk.  After the Soprano’s disappointing finale, my unborn child has already heard a few choice words.  I’m singing the lyrics to the super sultry and suggestive, Lady Marmalade.  It is also the inspiration for this week’s storyboard, Lady Marmalade.  Painted in red in black and shrouded in mystery and romance, this is a great starting point for your Moulin Rouge themed wedding.  Inspired by the movie and Cirque du Soleil , we bring a culmination of elements to appeal to the senses.  Though there are some key things we would change to make this more dynamic for the client, we hope it inspires you! See you next week, when our new storyboard will be….(LOL you’ll have to come back to find out!)

Sushi, please…Hold the Fish. Heavy on the Candy.

dessert-candy-sushi.jpgI’n not even going to pretend I can do anything heavier than the classic California Roll when me and Mr. Terrica go to our favorite sushi restaurant. Even our daughter and son enjoy it and you know how fickle kids are. I had a uber-cute client share this idea with me that she wants to do for her wedding…Get ready. Dessert Sushi. How cute is that! Instead of a candy bar (which she has grown weary of seeing as of late), we are going a dessert sushi bar. Too cute, huh?

So in prep for this, I’ve been reading about what it consists of as well as sketching and boarding some ideas for the bar table. As you can see, swedish fish and little cakes are used and decorated to look just like sushi. Not Martha has been a wonderful resource in learning more about making this “delicacy” as well as other recipes and options. Flickr has some great pictures of the different ways that you can present and woo your guests with dessert sushi

Freshly Pressed

Lately, the rage (or at least the talk) of the bridal town has been letterpress invites. They are indeed beautiful and well-crafted.  The intricacies within the design and hefty weight of the paper do lend to give an Old World feel.  Since the invitation sets the stage for the entire event for the wedding guest, it is quite understandable why couples want to make an early impression.

White Aisle (featured right) has GORGEOUS letterpress designs.  While they may be nice in conversation (as opposed to price!), it may spark some inspiration for you.

Not A Creature Was Stirring…Not Even a Bartending Mouse!

I am known as the Cocktail Queen amongst my friends, so it’s no wonder that I truly enjoy helping clients pick a signature drink for their special event.  We have a six page database of nothing but recipes!  And you know your recipes have to be good if you can get your husband’s UFC friends to walk around with one of your “girly drinks” at your fight parties…

So when I came across Stirrings, I knew that I finally found a place to dump my entertainment budget.  Bragging that it can turned anyone into a “seasoned mixologist”, they offer such flavors as Chocolate Peppermintini, Passionfruit Mojito, Tangerini, Pomegrante and Lemon Drop.  Traditionalists, have no fear!  They have the perfected some of the classics like Peach Bellini, Apple Martini, Mojito and the Traditional Martini.

What will knock your cotton socks off are the new Rimmers Cocktail Garnishes.  Now you can turn your boring drinks into designer siggies by adding these colorful and tasteful garnishes.  These too come in delectable flavors such as Pina Colada, Pie Crustini, Dirty Martini (client favorite!), and Chocolate.  Those are only the tip of the iceberg.

If you are allowed to bring your own alcohol in and are looking for UMPH without deflating your wallet completely, go to Stirrings!  They even have a portion of their site devoted totally to weddings.  Just get your favorite liquor, mix, garnish and serve. Voila– you’ve passed the Terrica Signature Drink 101 Course.  Take a step further and rent trendy glasses to dress up your cocktails and serve with fresh fruit and flowers.  If you would like to thank me for this wonderful discovery, please send a bottle to my  hospital room after I recover from labor.

Many thanks in advance.

Enjoy 🙂

In the Moodboard for Love

ecru.jpgWe often create storyboards (better known recently as “mood boards”) for clients. When done in person, they are very tactile– including flowers, stones, and linen swatches, as well as pictures of conceptual designs like centerpieces, layouts, etc.

Because we work with a lot of OOT clients, we decided to start doing e-Boards to email to client, based on the information obtained from their questionnaire.

Each week, we will share a board and hope it strikes some inspirtation in you too! This week’s inspiration comes from a latin theme, primarily from the Dominican Republic.

Cake Table Couture

Is your cake table design “blah”?  Do you have everything figured out but your cake table decor?  Have no fear, darlings! BBJ has new ideas in its bridal and cake table ideas gallery.  For example, how absolutely cute (and different) is this skirted (literally) cake table?  It adds texture and a cool, yet different design to the otherwise standard “white on white” fluffed cake table.  BBJ did another rendition of this skirted table, which is equally gorgeous, with even more depth.

Sweet Photo Op!

Looking for a great photo op for your outside ceremony with all your guests?  Try the Ribbon Celebration.  Find ribbons of satin in your wedding colors and tie/secure to a wand (wooden stick, skewer, etc. your choice). Your ribbons should at least be 2-4 inches wide and 6-8 inches long, cut on an angle.  Give one to each guest prior to the ceremony or leave one on each seat.

It is much easier to leave one on each seat, so that you can leave a card with the following instructions:

The Ribbon Celebration
We know that the ribbon banners are exceptionally fun to play with,
However, we ask that you wait until
AFTER the ceremony to show your enthusiasm

Go ahead and shake this stick like crazy
Once Dick and Jane have kissed as husband and wife

Once you have kissed as husband and wife,  your guests will then wave their ribbons in the air. This is sooooo cool! I will scan a copy of the picture just so you can see! It’s a great way to get some action shots of your ceremony!
