Keeping the Party Going…

A lot of our clients are opting to make a full weekend out of their weddings.  We always love doing this, because when you think of it– your guests are coming a long way for your *destination* wedding.  What better way (if you can afford it) to keep the party going by having a brunch the next morning with your family and friends.  We are seeing a huge rise in “Welcome Parties” (versus rehearsal dinners) and “Sunday Brunches” in our weddings here.  You may find that your venue/hotel will be really receptive and could give you a good deal if you are hosting your events all at one place.

Yet, I digress. Let’s get to the real reason why this post is here. Food.  Picking the food for your other events are just as important as taking the time to plan your reception menu.  For your brunch, we have found these uber-cute ideas.  Take, for example, the French Toast Kabobs from Martha Stewart (of course).  They are fun and different and can be a conversation piece for your brunch.  Other great treats are Breakfast Pizza, Bourbon Beignet Puffs, frittatas, and dumplings.  Pick a few favorites and offer them buffet style, complemented by muffins, your traditional breakfast meats and fresh fruit.  And why not have a signature drink at your brunch too!  You could go for the opulence of mimosas (these are my favorites in the morning whenever I travel *swoon*) or smoothies.

If your caterer or venue boasts that they can cook anything then take them up on it!  You are not and should not be limited to just what they put down on the menu.  You may find that you can not only get what you want, but you may be able to save money as well!  Look for innovative recipes at www.marthastewart.com , www.allrecipe.com or www.recipe.com (two of my favorites, as you can see).

Not A Creature Was Stirring…Not Even a Bartending Mouse!

I am known as the Cocktail Queen amongst my friends, so it’s no wonder that I truly enjoy helping clients pick a signature drink for their special event.  We have a six page database of nothing but recipes!  And you know your recipes have to be good if you can get your husband’s UFC friends to walk around with one of your “girly drinks” at your fight parties…

So when I came across Stirrings, I knew that I finally found a place to dump my entertainment budget.  Bragging that it can turned anyone into a “seasoned mixologist”, they offer such flavors as Chocolate Peppermintini, Passionfruit Mojito, Tangerini, Pomegrante and Lemon Drop.  Traditionalists, have no fear!  They have the perfected some of the classics like Peach Bellini, Apple Martini, Mojito and the Traditional Martini.

What will knock your cotton socks off are the new Rimmers Cocktail Garnishes.  Now you can turn your boring drinks into designer siggies by adding these colorful and tasteful garnishes.  These too come in delectable flavors such as Pina Colada, Pie Crustini, Dirty Martini (client favorite!), and Chocolate.  Those are only the tip of the iceberg.

If you are allowed to bring your own alcohol in and are looking for UMPH without deflating your wallet completely, go to Stirrings!  They even have a portion of their site devoted totally to weddings.  Just get your favorite liquor, mix, garnish and serve. Voila– you’ve passed the Terrica Signature Drink 101 Course.  Take a step further and rent trendy glasses to dress up your cocktails and serve with fresh fruit and flowers.  If you would like to thank me for this wonderful discovery, please send a bottle to my  hospital room after I recover from labor.

Many thanks in advance.

Enjoy 🙂

Sweet Photo Op!

Looking for a great photo op for your outside ceremony with all your guests?  Try the Ribbon Celebration.  Find ribbons of satin in your wedding colors and tie/secure to a wand (wooden stick, skewer, etc. your choice). Your ribbons should at least be 2-4 inches wide and 6-8 inches long, cut on an angle.  Give one to each guest prior to the ceremony or leave one on each seat.

It is much easier to leave one on each seat, so that you can leave a card with the following instructions:

The Ribbon Celebration
We know that the ribbon banners are exceptionally fun to play with,
However, we ask that you wait until
AFTER the ceremony to show your enthusiasm

Go ahead and shake this stick like crazy
Once Dick and Jane have kissed as husband and wife

Once you have kissed as husband and wife,  your guests will then wave their ribbons in the air. This is sooooo cool! I will scan a copy of the picture just so you can see! It’s a great way to get some action shots of your ceremony!

Take A Seat

I saw these GREAT chair covers over at INSIDE Weddings and thought they were the best wedding sugar I’ve seen in a while.  These decor hotties are from Wildflower Linen— the handbeaded designs accentuated with satins and silks are a great way to add to the experience of your event.  These linens are actually designed for the Chameleon Chair.

Everyone typically does linens and opts for chair covers and a simple sash, or they decide “to Chiavari”.  It can get boring after a while.  So what do you do to add a little life to your bottom? Shoot for texture or go sheer.  Add other elements such as flowers, garlands, chair pads, etc. to bring out some UMMMPH!

Even if you just opt to do a different chair, this too could add a lot of substance and flavor to your event. So be sure to check out Chameleon Chair!

Bringing Out the “Preak” In You

I came home just in time for the Preakness!  For the celebration, I thouth I would share our state’s favorite drink on Preakness: The Black Eyed Susan.  The Black Eyed Susan is to Maryland’s Preakness, as the Mint Julep is to the Kentucky Derby.

1 – 1/4 cup vodka
4 cups orange juice
1 – 1/4 cup light rum
ice ring
3/4 cup triple sec
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
4 cups pineapple juice

These are great to add to your signature bar if you are horse/racing enthusiast or are from the great state of Maryland (or if you just like the ingredients!)!

Play It Safe

Your wedding day is important to you, right?

You are not one of those starry eyed brides who believe that everything is going to go just perfect, are you?

Hopefully not. Bad things do happen. Sometimes they happen at weddings.  In the event that something does happen, are you covered?  Sure it’s only one day, but it’s a BIG day and it’s a big day where you are spending A LOT of money.  It would seriously be a shame if you had to put out more because of a serious mishap, or even a cancellation.

Also, if your venue requires that your vendors carry liability insurance please make sure that your vendors have it before you book them.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your event staff is properly insured. You will risk losing deposits or spending more money to obtain insurance or to secure another vendor if you do not take care of this very important step from the beginning.  If you are working with a wedding planner, this will be something they will check prior to booking your vendors. However if you are doing all of the planning yourself and/or only working with a Day of Coodinator, it is crucial that you remember this.

WedSafe is a fantastic company that offers event liability insurance as well as wedding cancellation insurance.  For a very low premium, you can insure your wedding for up to a million dollars, and third-party vendors up to $250,000.  With wedding insurance at five different levels, you can cover your wedding from such things as postponement/cancellation to include your photographers, wedding planners, jewelry, attire, etc.

Meet Me at the Bar!

I just stumbled across a great blog recently, The Bridal Bar.

Even though the Bridal Bar site is a resource site for events in sunny California, you can still get great ideas and tips from their blog.  The blog is hip to all of the event happenings in LA and surrounding areas, so if you are looking for that celebrity styled event, you are at the right spot!

Way to Go, Khris!

Many of you know how much I heart Khris Cochran of DIY Bride.  She is a phenomenal talent and I will go even as far to say she’s a creative genius.  Khris gave a sneak peek of the cover of her new book this week, and it is just too cute!

If you haven’t checked out DIY Bride yet, I don’t know what’s wrong with you or what’s taking you so long!  I’ve only been raving about her for like. EVER 🙂

www.diybride.com is a great community full of ideas, tips and news on how to make (literally) your wedding fantastic.  There is even a community there for you and other fellow brides to share ideas.
