Congratulations, Leah and Jason!

I absolutely LOVED this wedding. It was such a pleasure working with Leah’s mom  through out the past year, but seeing Leah and Jason interact, was awesome.  Just the simple things– a quick laugh or secret, dancing, small talk.  You can tell there is such a strong love between them.

Their beautiful wedding was held on Saturday at the Crane Cottage at the Jekyll Club Hotel.  We all braved the heat (“little” brother Eric included…who swears that  venomous bee attacked him.  One of my favorite go-to-groomsmen ever!) and kept the party going until 1 am to celebrate the union of such a lovely couple.  The only moment that topped the Auburn fan fare at the groom’s cake cutting was the stunningly romantic dance between the Best Man and Groom to “Forever Yours“.  A real tearjerker (and side splitter)!

Leah and Jason– all the best to you!  We hope that you continue to grow in the love and faith that you share in the many years to come in your marriage. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your very special day.  The uber-fabulous Eric and Adrienne Delaforce were the photographers for this wedding, so stay tuned for pictures!

Keeping the Party Going…

A lot of our clients are opting to make a full weekend out of their weddings.  We always love doing this, because when you think of it– your guests are coming a long way for your *destination* wedding.  What better way (if you can afford it) to keep the party going by having a brunch the next morning with your family and friends.  We are seeing a huge rise in “Welcome Parties” (versus rehearsal dinners) and “Sunday Brunches” in our weddings here.  You may find that your venue/hotel will be really receptive and could give you a good deal if you are hosting your events all at one place.

Yet, I digress. Let’s get to the real reason why this post is here. Food.  Picking the food for your other events are just as important as taking the time to plan your reception menu.  For your brunch, we have found these uber-cute ideas.  Take, for example, the French Toast Kabobs from Martha Stewart (of course).  They are fun and different and can be a conversation piece for your brunch.  Other great treats are Breakfast Pizza, Bourbon Beignet Puffs, frittatas, and dumplings.  Pick a few favorites and offer them buffet style, complemented by muffins, your traditional breakfast meats and fresh fruit.  And why not have a signature drink at your brunch too!  You could go for the opulence of mimosas (these are my favorites in the morning whenever I travel *swoon*) or smoothies.

If your caterer or venue boasts that they can cook anything then take them up on it!  You are not and should not be limited to just what they put down on the menu.  You may find that you can not only get what you want, but you may be able to save money as well!  Look for innovative recipes at www.marthastewart.com , www.allrecipe.com or www.recipe.com (two of my favorites, as you can see).

Groomsmen Say the Funniest Things

Groomsmen are a funny bunch.  At a wedding last weekend, I went to the groom’s suite to pin all of my guys.  I typically make jokes with my groomsmen during this time or talk about some things that interest them (they are impressed by my mixed martial arts knowledge).  Believe it or not, the groomsmen are nervous sometimes, so this downtime really helps everyone to chill out before the ceremony.

As I am pinning the groom, one of the groomsmen looked at my name tag and said, “Grief Counselor!? OMG! Are you sure you’re at the right event?”

My name tag actually says Chief Consultant.

Thought that was cute, and it certainly added some laughs for all of us.

Not A Creature Was Stirring…Not Even a Bartending Mouse!

I am known as the Cocktail Queen amongst my friends, so it’s no wonder that I truly enjoy helping clients pick a signature drink for their special event.  We have a six page database of nothing but recipes!  And you know your recipes have to be good if you can get your husband’s UFC friends to walk around with one of your “girly drinks” at your fight parties…

So when I came across Stirrings, I knew that I finally found a place to dump my entertainment budget.  Bragging that it can turned anyone into a “seasoned mixologist”, they offer such flavors as Chocolate Peppermintini, Passionfruit Mojito, Tangerini, Pomegrante and Lemon Drop.  Traditionalists, have no fear!  They have the perfected some of the classics like Peach Bellini, Apple Martini, Mojito and the Traditional Martini.

What will knock your cotton socks off are the new Rimmers Cocktail Garnishes.  Now you can turn your boring drinks into designer siggies by adding these colorful and tasteful garnishes.  These too come in delectable flavors such as Pina Colada, Pie Crustini, Dirty Martini (client favorite!), and Chocolate.  Those are only the tip of the iceberg.

If you are allowed to bring your own alcohol in and are looking for UMPH without deflating your wallet completely, go to Stirrings!  They even have a portion of their site devoted totally to weddings.  Just get your favorite liquor, mix, garnish and serve. Voila– you’ve passed the Terrica Signature Drink 101 Course.  Take a step further and rent trendy glasses to dress up your cocktails and serve with fresh fruit and flowers.  If you would like to thank me for this wonderful discovery, please send a bottle to my  hospital room after I recover from labor.

Many thanks in advance.

Enjoy 🙂

Lead Us Not Into Temptation…For We Can Find It Ourselves…

Before my flight last week, I decided to head over to Bath and Body Works to pamper myself for a bit. I would be alone (a whole new concept for me altogether) for the next 2 days, so it would be ab fab to take a shower, wash my hair, give myself a pedicure without my 2 or 4 year old bursting in the bathroom.

At any rate, I decided to try out the new Temptations line.  Ok, swoon!  The Iced Tea Twist ($12), featured right, is my favorite!  The 16 oz body dessert is a triple threat:  Shower Gel, Bubble Bath and Shampoo.  I also got the lotion to layer the uber-delicious scent.  My next temptation was Banana Smoothie Lotion ($8).  Ten full ounces of body goodness!  My daughter loves it!  There are several other “flavors” in the temptations line besides the ones I got (read: I am going back for more):  Alluring Apple, Orange Freeze, Melon Cooler (I heart this one!), Perfect Peach, Frosting Forever (This one coudl get me in trouble).  They come in the 3-in-1, lotions and the home fragrance oils.

The new 2007 Temptations are equally alluring AND on sale at 50% off!  Beyond Berry and Sunset Mango 3-in-1 are now only $6!  These also come in a body mousse and a fragrance spray.  Lucky You!  And again, these are 50% off!? In the stores, they had a cute martini glass candle of Sunset Mango, too.

If you’re into the signature line at B&BW, then jump on their current special of up to 75% off!  The Signature Shower Gel and Body wash is only $3!

 Happy Pampering!

P.S. How cute is this?  Runaway Bridesmaids!

I’ve Got to Get Away…

I’m sitting in the airport today…I had to fly down to the island for a wedding yesterday and am now on the first flight out to get back to my babies :)  Granted, I get to carry one with me, but I still miss my little ones.

Being in the airport also made me realize how much I miss my husband. We  always traveled together…and I enjoyed (and miss) holding hands in the airport, falling asleep on his shoulder after takeoff…My DH is overseas serving right now, and although we are lucky enough to talk every day by phone, email and/or instant messenger, it’s almost never the same.  I’m sure you know what I mean.  In 2005, we went to Jamaica twice– once alone and another time with the kidlets.  In 2006, we took the kidlets to Disneyworld joined by my parents and sister and her family.  Here we are in 2007.  Of course, we have another beautiful baby coming this summer.  He desperately wants and needs to get away. So I have been researching a few places. He offered Jamaica again, since we made great friends at our favorite resort, but I wouldn’t mind going somewhere different.

So, I’ve been looking at Las Ventanas (above). This place is absolutely GORGEOUS.  Look at it!  I can’t think of a better get away for me and my man to enjoy some much needed R&R  than this beautiful getaway. I mean, jeeze!  One room is bigger than our entire house!  We are also looking at the Turks and Caicos or another place in Mexico, like the Royal Hideaway Playacar (featured left), Villa Del Sol or the Palace Resorts.

We’re looking to go somewhere exotic and romantic…any ideas?

Congratulations to Beth and Blake!

Beth has to be one of the most creative brides I’ve come across in a long time. Her ideas for Jekyll Island’s Faith Chapel were absolutely gorgeous!  Going for a hot and baby pink theme, she incorporated some very sentimental and creative elements into her wedding as well (such as charms for the bouquets of her bridal party, a wish tree and a cotton candy machine on the dance floor!)

It was wonderful to see just how many people love and adored both Blake and Beth. Even as the tropical storm loomed in the distance, the festivities went on and on and the guests had a fabulous time.  Thanks Blake and Beth for allowing us to assist with your fabulous day!

Bringing Out the “Preak” In You

I came home just in time for the Preakness!  For the celebration, I thouth I would share our state’s favorite drink on Preakness: The Black Eyed Susan.  The Black Eyed Susan is to Maryland’s Preakness, as the Mint Julep is to the Kentucky Derby.

1 – 1/4 cup vodka
4 cups orange juice
1 – 1/4 cup light rum
ice ring
3/4 cup triple sec
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
4 cups pineapple juice

These are great to add to your signature bar if you are horse/racing enthusiast or are from the great state of Maryland (or if you just like the ingredients!)!

Play It Safe

Your wedding day is important to you, right?

You are not one of those starry eyed brides who believe that everything is going to go just perfect, are you?

Hopefully not. Bad things do happen. Sometimes they happen at weddings.  In the event that something does happen, are you covered?  Sure it’s only one day, but it’s a BIG day and it’s a big day where you are spending A LOT of money.  It would seriously be a shame if you had to put out more because of a serious mishap, or even a cancellation.

Also, if your venue requires that your vendors carry liability insurance please make sure that your vendors have it before you book them.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your event staff is properly insured. You will risk losing deposits or spending more money to obtain insurance or to secure another vendor if you do not take care of this very important step from the beginning.  If you are working with a wedding planner, this will be something they will check prior to booking your vendors. However if you are doing all of the planning yourself and/or only working with a Day of Coodinator, it is crucial that you remember this.

WedSafe is a fantastic company that offers event liability insurance as well as wedding cancellation insurance.  For a very low premium, you can insure your wedding for up to a million dollars, and third-party vendors up to $250,000.  With wedding insurance at five different levels, you can cover your wedding from such things as postponement/cancellation to include your photographers, wedding planners, jewelry, attire, etc.Â
