If you’ve never been to our area—you are truly in for a treat with our islands, Saint Simons, Jekyll Island, Sea Island and Little Saint Simons Island.  Tucked away off of the Georgia Coast, is the perfect getaway without “actually” going away.  These islands are perfect for those who love the concept of a destination wedding, but want to make sure that their guests are able to attend their wedding without spending a lot of money for travel.  Each island offers something for everyone—Jekyll Island is a quiet, natural island full of beauty and history. It is the home to the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel, the al fresco Beachview Club, as well as the quaint Villas by the Sea with Straton Hall, and the large beachside Jekyll Island Convention CenterSaint Simons Island is a true vacation island—home to the historic seaside dance club turned uber resort King and Prince, luxurious Ocean Lodge, other sprawling estates like Villa de Suenos and several boutiques and restaurants.  Sea Island  is home to the ultra exclusive Cloister that is an experience all its own.

With all these options, I’ll share some tips on planning your destination wedding here in Coastal Georgia:

  • Enlist the help of a planner.  A planner will be able to steer you to the perfect vendors according to your budget, event vision and style.  It’s great for you to have what we call “boots on the ground” to work as a liaison for you and your vendors—share your likes , dislikes and event vision.  Your planner will most likely work with many of the local vendors as well as have a list of those that travel to the area.
  • Get to know your vendors ahead of time.  With the help of the internet, you can research your vendors before you come to the area.  This means checking out their rating on sites like Wedding Wire or Project Wedding  from previous couples.  We’ve listed some local wedding pros that use Twitter and it might be helpful for you to read their blogs or Facebook business pages. This gives you the opportunity to get to know them before you meet you visit the area.
  • Make a planning trip to the area. Trust me, you’ll fall in love with the area. If you haven’t narrowed down your choices on a venue, plan to spend one day on one island and the next on the other. Be prepared to take some time off—with our area being a destination wedding area, most of your event pros are working on Fridays and Saturdays, and their offices close on Sundays and Monday.
  • Experience the area.  Take as many pictures as possible and visit some of the sights— like the St. Simons Lighthouse, Downtown Brunswick and sandy beaches of Jekyll Island.  Your guests will rely on this information during their stay, so it will be helpful for you to have information about what’s nearby, the must-sees and dos, as well as some places to catch some rays, enjoy some southern cooking or a martini and good music.

These tips should get you started with your upcoming wedding Saint Simons, Jekyll Island or Sea Island.  We hope to work with you soon!

Over the summer, we were so very honored and excited to finally produce an event that only held us spellbound creatively, but also emotionally.  Ashaki and Embry became more than just great clients over the course of our planning, but great friends (I miss them so! Thank heavens for Facebook!). The two were married at the beautiful historic Crane Cottage at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for an outdoor wedding and reception.  In addition to the great details that kept us sketching, bustling and literally enthralled, we had the opportunity to work with some of the best vendors like the phenomenal Agnes Lopez and Gay Whatley, as well as the outstanding band from Atlanta,  Excite and local favorite, Tommy Tucker of Dance Jammers who provided the tunes for the after party (which was a tribute to the great, late Michael Jackson and some how had a remix of Hava Nagila.  I will never question the depth of Tommy’s music library, every again.  Ever.)  Our team was also fortunate to work with the ever so talented Christina Grimsley of In Motion Video Productions.

Christina provided us with the video that now is on the gallery of the FABULUXE website, but I wanted to take a moment and share it here so that you can see her work.  I cried during the wedding and I cried again when I viewed her awesome production of the video. It was like being there all over again—I know if I  felt like that, Christina’s clients must feel the same way, and that is an awesome way to feel. I can’t say enough fabulous things about her so if you are in need of a great videographer, look her up!

As many of you know, I absolutely love where I live and work.  Surrounded by gorgeous islands and beaches, and so many other awesome parts of nature and history, it is a wonderful place to live.  I keep up with the happenings of all local wedding and event professionals with blogs and social networking.  The Jekyll Island Authority had a brilliant campaign on Twitter: a picture would be posted, and if you recognized where it was on the island, you would win a guest blogger spot on the official www.jekyllisland.com blog.  Having met so many beautiful couples and planned so many gorgeous destination weddings here, it was so nice to let everyone know why I love this area so much.  Check out our guest blog post on the Jekyll Island blog!

If you are a member of Twitter, you have probably become addicted like most—but did you know some of Saint Simons and Jekyll Island’s wedding professionals are on Twitter, too?  That’s right—now you can keep up with your favorite wedding photographers, wedding cake bakers, florists, and wedding ceremony and reception venues.  Get to know them, learn about great tips for your wedding or happenings in the area. Being between such beautiful and unique cities like Savannah and Jacksonville, I’ve included some great wedding professionals that are in that area, too!

Is your wedding in Savannah, St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island or Jacksonville?  We would LOVE to work with you, and have you appear in our new promo video!

To celebrate our fabulous start to 2009, we are offering a free month of coordination package to a lucky couple getting married in our service area.  This isn’t your mother’s day of coordination! We will work with you four to six weeks prior to your wedding:  obtaining information that is vital to the successful execution of your day.  We will begin to confirm your vendors, create your event blueprints and go over any (and every!) detail that is pertinent to your event.  Our team of lifestyle event designers will work to keep your bridal party, family and vendors updated and prepared with the latest information on your wedding day itineraries and plans.  Your team will also be there for you at your rehearsal, setup on the day of the wedding and complete coordination.  You can focus on being beautiful, in love and fabulous, while we handle the logistics and coordination of the day.

Are you excited?  Ready to enter?  Fabulous!

Send an email to blog@fabuluxeinc.com  with the subject “My Fabuluxe Wedding”, and tell us all about you and why your wedding is fabuluxe in 400 words or less (remember, we love details!)!  Be sure to include your wedding date and location.  You are more than welcome to send us pictures of the two of you or of some of your ideas—we want to get to know you!  Not in our area, but know someone who is?  Be sure to spread the word!

Good luck!

I know you have heard me talk about my home and where I work, but here is a chance for you to see it for yourself. So many people love the natural barrier island of Jekyll Island– I have come to love it, too. It is a great place to escape, relax and enjoy the beauty, love and people around you.

Check it out!

We Were Here.

February 5, 2008

We had a fantabulous time at the wedding show, yesterday at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Half the fun was had in the set up and break down of the booth. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun on a Sunday– but my girlfriends are awesome!

Abby, Lindsay and Streater– Thank YOU for a fantastic show, your hard work and fabulousness. You are exactly what fabuluxe is :)

Getting ready for show time

This is Lindsay ALL day long. She is just hilarious. We forbade her from making ANY predictions for the show. Linds has the ability to say “What if…” or “Wouldn’t it be funny if…” at the rehearsal or setup during the day of the wedding…and it actually happens. Lindsay is uber creative. Just ask her about the bucket of flowers she got during a wedding we had.

Abby Setting Up the Cocktail Tables

Abby is also hilarious. I can’t publicly post what she said on Sunday that made me fall out on the floor laughing…but she is awesome. I can explain an idea to Abby and she makes it happen.

Streater Setting Up the Main Table

This is our new intern, Streater. Cutest name ever. I think we’ve officially found our “sweet one” (because Lord knows it wasn’t me). Streater was great at the show and was able to keep up with us. Prayerfully, we haven’t scared the poor girl.

Fabuluxe Bridal Show Setup

Here we are….all done and ready for show time!

Fabuluxe Bridal Show Setup

Another view of our booth. You couldn’t miss us– as soon as you walked in the convention center, you had our wedding sexy in your face colors right before your eyes. It was great because so many brides said, “We just KNEW it was you because your booth looked just like your ad!”

Our Cocktail Table

One of our cocktail tables, beautiful matching guestbook (a gift from my most special girlfriend, Precious. I owe Precious everything. She listened to me pine and moan over this setup!)

Our main table… That candelabra is another sweetie from Precious. It rocks to have friends with awesome taste! Our brochures sat in a tray of crystals :)

Straton Hall's Booth

This is Straton Hall‘s setup. UBER gorgeous. The food was actually presented BEAUTIFULLY– suspended from their booth. So weddingsexy :)

Straton's Fabulous Food

Here is one of the suspended areas of their booth– this was the best pecan chicken salad ever. How cute are the little bowls?

Jay, Stacy and Terrica

This is me with Jay and Stacy, owners of Straton Hall. Angel of The Beachview Club caught us midlaugh because Stacy was talking MUCH trash.

Stacey and Terrica

My super girlfriend, Stacey, of the Jekyll Island Authority. They handle the rentals for weddings at Faith Chapel, Villa Mariana, The Convention Center, Morgans, and the Beach Deck.

The Fab Ones

My fabbies. How cute are they!?

James and me

Me with the fabulous James Grella of Image Artisans, Inc. You have heard me talk about how wonderful James is. But here is the sad but true part…James didn’t even recognize me when I was all dressed up. He’s so used to seeing me in “prep mode” for weddings, that he doesn’t see the rockstar come show time.

This picture did not come out the way I wanted it to, but still had to post it for sentimental reasons…it’s our “Destination Wedding” picture, right, Lindsay?

Wendy B and Terrica

Me with Wendy of Sea Palms Resort. She is an absolute sweetheart and knows my affinity for good cake.

And here we are– the Fabuluxe Family :)

Welcome to FABULUXE!

January 1, 2008

375528reg.jpgWhy, hello there!

Welcome to our new home! And this, my friends, was my great surprise!

Once Upon Your Wedding is now Fabuluxe Events, Inc., a full service event planning firm. Additionally, we have extended our service area to Savannah, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. Of course, we will still service our fabulous home town of the Golden Isles– St. Simons, Jekyll Island and Sea Island. Now, we can offer more as we expand in to other social and corporate events.

So there it is!

Ta da!

Everything is where you left it! Same categories, posts, etc.

Welcome home!

I was a featured guest on The Wedding Planning Audiocast. I had an opportunity to sit and talk with Ralph Mucci, the show’s host, and let him in on a little known secret– our great little islands!

Their guests to date have been some of the biggest names in the wedding world such as Colin Cowie, Marcy Blum, Jennifer Brisman, Michelle Rago, Ron-Ben Israel, Sylvia Weinstock, The Bridal Bar, & The Wedding Gown Specialists to name a few. These professionals have all offered such fantastic advice, tips, & secrets on wedding planning topics & issues, which is a wonderful asset to both professionals and brides.

They’ve also had on some of the biggest gown designers such as Watter & Watters, & Adele Wechsler, along with many many more. Their “You Look Marvelous” show segment which addresses hair, makeup, & skincare is awesome, because it doesn’t just reach out to brides but to all women, and being a women myself I love any beauty tips & advice that I can obtain. They’ve also had on some of the biggest names in the celebrity makeup world on such as Carmindy from the Learning Channel’s #1 hit show “What Not to Wear”, Sephora, Benefit Cosmetics, Mally Roncal, Elke Von Freudenberg, Billy B., & Shalini Vadhera. They just don’t seem to leave any stone unturned. Their shows are straightforward and right to the point, which is what I really enjoy about them, and they have some of the coolest music throughout their shows.

I recently had the pleasure to appear on their “Destination Wedding” show segment to inform their listeners about The Golden Isles of Georgia. These four islands– Jekyll Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons, & St. Simons are all beautiful places if one is considering a destination wedding. I have orchestrated many destination weddings to these islands and all have been spectacular & memorable events. However most people aren’t aware of these islands and have been pretty much a well-kept secret up until now. On the show we inform the listener & cover all the elements and ingredients one needs to know if their considering a destination wedding one of these 4 emeralds. Without giving to much away about the show listeners will be very surprised to learn that one of the islands can be your very own if you choose.

Have a listen to the show! I had a great time, and Ralph even read a few of the New Rules!Have a listen to the show!
Be sure to subscribe, because like I said The Wedding Planning Audiocast has some great topics and wonderful guests on there!
Thank you, Ralph!
