Time to Move On…
Terrica • November 4th, 2009 • Filed under Company News
It is with a sad, but happy heart that I inform you that we have closed a chapter on a former life. I believe in fostering creativity and support in this industry, and in spite of recent events—I always will. It was truly with a giving spirit that I attempted to appeal to a person’s better judgment, since they had just began their business two days prior to my contact and ask that they refrain from using the name I had spent so much time cultivating and using for years. Instead of replying to my request, they filed for a trademark a day before my application made it into the system. After building the brand that you have come to know and love, we spent the greater part of this past year embroiled in a trademark battle in an attempt to protect what we have.
This week, I received notice that the planner/designer won the trademark and we will no longer use the name that has come mean everything fabulous and luxurious in weddings.
But you know what?
I’m fine with that.
While we’ve poured our blood, sweat and vodka into the name, it’s a mere piece of what our brand is. What is everlasting and true is our commitment to providing excellent client service to those who will work alongside us, both vendors and clients. While I have decided not to pursue this any longer within the courts, I am completely and undeniably committed to pursuing the creation of outstanding events, supporting stellar professionals in this industry and keeping you in the know on everything fabulous.
Don’t cry for me, Argentina….
Alas, luxelings, when one martini is knocked over, another one is being shaken and ready to be poured. This is a minor inconvenience, not a setback, In fact, it seems like the perfect opportunity to reveal some of the awesome things we have in store under our new name, Cocktails & Details:
* Be on the look out for our upcoming collaborations with some of the world’s best spirits companies! I am so excited to bring you something special that you’ll possibly be able to buy in a store near you!
* We will be collaborating with Houston’s hot destination wedding specialist, Precious Nuptials & Destinations to provide on-location coordination services for destination weddings in Mexico and the Caribbean. Stay Tuned!
* Due to demand, we have launched Details for a Day—our division that will solely handle the month of coordination and elopements for couples having weddings in Savannah, St. Simons, Jekyll Island and Jacksonville.
* …and so much more!
I hope you are just as excited about some of the new things we have in store! I want you to keep in touch, so here are some updates:
* If you linked to us previously, please make a point to change the former URL to our new one: www.cocktailsdetails.com and www.cocktailsdetailsblog.com.
* The new feed for our blog has changed as well— please subscribe to stay up-to-date with the fabulousness
* If you follow us on Twitter, be sure to send your @ replies or DMs to the new name CocktailTerrica (note, it is the same account, so if you were already following me, you still are!) Don’t forget to follow Kim, too!
* If you were a fan of our previous fan page, it is now closed. Come by and show your support by becoming a fan on Facebook!
Thank you so much for your continued support and I look forward to creating bigger and better things with you, no matter what our name is.
But remember, it’s Cocktails & Details
Thank you so much, Eliana, Jennifer, Saundra, Liene, Precious, Mattie & Kim for your unwavering support, love and laughter. I owe you more than I could pay and will adore you longer than I will live. You are all talented, intelligent and beautiful people and I am gracious to have you in my brain trust. Your inspiration and drive is not lost at any second of the day…this one’s for you.

This happened for a reason and I am so excited that I cannot wait for the FABness to begin.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:48 AM
I’m so sorry for the battle you’ve been going through this past year, Terrica. While Fabuluxe will be greatly missed, I know that Cocktails & Details will continue to provide all the fabulousness, quality, and INTEGRITY that we have come to known and love. Wishing Cocktails & Details all the best!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
Like a Phoenix from the ashes you already are rising again! This is not the last we have seen of you and I can’t wait to see why lemonade you make from these lemons! Today Cocktails and Details (the name) is over for me. For there was truly only one!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
Being fabulous is not just in the name. It is in who you are. It is in your character. It is in your spirit. It has and always will be YOU! Your brand will continue to soar because you are a forward thinker (look what you’ve rolled out already!) and a giver. When your brand is fabulous the title on the letterhead matters not.
Much love to ya, babe!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
I have no words.
Know that this chapter was forced to close to allow for something so much more amazing to come into your life. Lord knows that you deserve it!

November 4th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Oh goodness – You know, I went through a similar thing about a year ago. What I realized was that it is not about the name. See: http://www.abcddesign.com/archives/2008/12/02/abcd-designs-ceci-nest-pas-une-tasse/
The behavior of the other party, the lawyers fees and the negative energy is just not worth it. It zaps your creative energy and ability to run a smart and efficient business.
This “jerk” that you were fighting has simply forced you into clarity. Clarity is a very good thing, indeed. This new energy will take you on to bigger and brighter things.

A butterfly doesn’t get to fly until it has built up strength fighting to get out of the cocoon. You were once a cayepillar and now this is your butterfly moment to start over as a beautiful new creation! No matter what, you’ll always be fabulous!

Whew! I thought you were closing doors for good! As icky as this situation was, YOU are the fabulous, not the name. Leave it behind and shake it off, sister!

I went through this too and it was heart-wrenching at first. So happy for you in this new chapter! I know this is a blessing in disguise for you and I can’t wait to see where it takes you. Many prayers and big hugs!! xoxo

Tomorrow never dies… Just look at all the wonderful things transitioning into your tomorrow. As Andria said, I love your natural ability to think, react, build and work into tomorrow. Swiping a business name won’t bring success. You, my dear, are the core of everything fabulous! I’m ready to toast over Cocktails & Details!!
November 4th, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Dearest Terrica–
You cannot truly own a name if you do not embody it. Everyone knows an original when they see it. Cheap imitations are always exposed. I know we’ll talk later. . .over cocktails.

LONG LIVE COCKTAILS & DETAILS!!!
Rock this out as you have all of your other endeavors both personally and professionally-
November 4th, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Terrica,
I applaud you for being the bigger person here, not an easy thing to do. Remember that YOU are what created YOUR brand and style and no one can ever ever replace it or do it the same way, no matter how much they try.
I wish you many big successes as Cocktails & Details …
Best,
Lisa
November 4th, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Oh that’s so frustrating! And what a lowball thing for them to do. But… you are your brand and you will soar with this new name! I’m so excited for all the new plans you listed! This will be just a minor pebble in the road of your success.
November 4th, 2009 at 12:47 PM
Terrica! From one LUXE Lady to another…I applaud you in every way. Your vision, your tenacity, your creativity, your support – the list goes on for miles – and since you already know what they say about a rose…
I hate that you’ve been bogged down by this fight. It’s unbelievable and so unfortunate. My team and I deal daily with copyright and trademark infringement issues and it is so draining. But I wanted to share what I had to learn about myself through the process…
People can steal your ideas, but they can’t take away your imagination. That’s what keeps me going. AND – That’s why they can take your name, but they can never be you. YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

Ms. Terrica,
Know this: And this too shall pass. Where one door closes, several others shall be open. What God has blessed no one can curse. There are so many things I wish to say in your defense, but I can only state that this person may in fact be “Occupying” what God had for you initially, illegally (from a spiritual aspect). With that being the case, it will not last.
Be encouraged. You have so much support from all of us. Your Brand can only Expand and Excel And it will! So On with the Evolution!!!
Grace & Peace

I’m sorry to hear about your ongoing battle, but you and your business are so much more than a name. Everything happens for a reason and because you have chosen to take the high road you will be rewarded ten-fold. Like Emee your was one of the first blogs I started to follow, and I can always count on your wit and humor to bring a comical touch to the industry.

I’m sorry to hear about this, and just yesterday I was wondering why I hadn’ seen your name on twitter recently. You did a fabulous job building it up, and no doubt, I know you will do it again (and probably big than before). Sending you positive vibes and best wishes as you move on. Oh Terrica… I’m so sorry to hear about this. I think you have a fabulous attitude about it all and are so so much more than a name. Your fabuluxe and can’t nobody take that away from you girl! I’m proud of you and excited for your new chapter.

Terrica – Wow what an ordeal you have been through! No surprise you have held your head high and taken the {very} high road. The ‘imitator’ has to live with herself and know what she has done. We ALL know what the truth is and that is what is important. None of us are defined by a name – we define ourselves and you are the definition of class and grace and all that is truly fabulous. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for you – there is no question it is VERY bright!
Cheers!

Can you feel the love and support?? I know that recently someone who is ‘young’ in the industry was going on/on and I said to her that the true PROFESSIONALS in this industry are kind, giving, supportive and willing to share. There are others that will suck you dry and step over you to get what they perceive as the golden ring. In the end, the people that hold true, are good, shake off the nonsense and yes rise, like the phoenix win. I have to believe that, even when I have those ‘why me’ moments.
You my dear have proven that you are a true class act and I raise several glasses of Champagne to you, your brand (which is more than your name) and your continued success.

Terrica,
People like you are rare. Often imitated but will never be duplicated. Your blessings come from God and God alon, no matter what anyone says. Not from a name, a position or a title…and certainly not from other people. You are the essence of fabulosity. Shaken…not stirred, baby! As they say, it’s all in the “details”.

Terricca,
there is a african proverb that says what you don’t work for you can’t keep. I am firm believer that things happen for a reason. Don’t be angry or bitter, the Lord is preparing you for something bigger and you have to let go of old things in your hand in order to receive the new things He has in store for you. Ok enough of the sermon- I look forward to seeing much bigger things cocktails and details.
