Paper or Plastic?

Most of us do our shopping, come home put our stuff away and then what? Do you throw your bags away? or Recycle? Like most people you probably throw your bags in the trash and don’t give them a second thought.

Did you know less than six percent of plastics bags actually make it to the recycling bin?

But as there becomes more and more of an awarensess to “go green” people are finding easy ways to make a difference. For example these cute reusable bags by Envirosax. They come in different graphic series pouches with 5 bags in each pouch for $37.50.  Not only are they cute but they can also carry the equivalent of 2 grocery bags.

Reusablebags.com posted these facts as well as a running count of plastic bags cosumed this year.

  • Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year.

  • According to the EPA, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year.

  • According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion)

    • Those are totally cute! I’d use ’em as a purse!

We reuse all our plastics for things like cleaning the cat box (yuck! 🙁 ) and packing lunches for work.

    • Well…I have taken all my plastic bags back to the grocery store for recycling and have bought reusable ones for new groceries. If I have a few plastic bags, I make sure to use them around the house….cute bags!
