Micromanaging Killed the Photography Star

I get the opportunity to work with a lot of fabulous photographers.  What makes it so awesome is that you get to see art created right before your eyes, and see a real artist at work.  A lot of times (subconciously), brides receive “helpful” information from friends, wedding magazines and books and even their wedding planners.

Recently I came across this awesome article, Kill the Shot List,  by a photographer, who has a little secret for brides:  You can’t (nor should you try) to micromanage an artist 😉

 Enjoy!

  • Hi Terrica,

Glad you enjoyed the article! Thanks for passing the word on! I can’t wait for the shot list to finally and definitely be a thing of the past!

I actually used an up and coming photographer (w/ fingers crossed) at my wedding, and since we were his first paying customers (he’d been doing weddings for free all this time) he actually ASKED us for a list of shots we wanted….which our wedding planner agreed was appropriate….we came up with a few certain shots with the family members, but we specifically asked him to freelance and go from his heart and the results were beautiful….He caught us in moments when we thought no one was looking! So I agree that couples should give photographers lots of space, but be honest if they were interested in some traditional shots-just don’t overwhelm the poor guy with riduculous demands…..the most talented ones will definitely DO THEIR JOB and then some!
