It’s the Little Things…

A lot of times, I will get to a wedding where things have slipped the poor bride’s mind (even if I remind her).  So here is just a gentle reminder of things to take note of (or give to someone else so they can remember for you).

Guestbook Pens–These have to be the number one most forgotten things in the history of time.  Depending on what you are using for a guestbook, make sure you are using the right type of writing utensil for your medium.  For example, this could include Sharpies for polaroids, acid-free pens for photo mats and scrapbooks, etc.  For the classic guestbooks, try to avoid the regular Bic pen on your table.  You’ve spent thousands on your wedding, splurge a little more on the pen (LOL you say, “Terrica, I have splurged! That’s why I’m using a Bic pen!”).  You can do something that the MOB did at my last wedding– she dressed up her pens as gorgeous flowers in the wedding colors to sit in a vase by the guestbook (similar to the photo at the right).

The picture-  I wish I could put exclamation marks next to that one.  I have seen so many couples who love to do the signature photo mat, but seriously– they put an empty frame up at the reception. It’s almost like the Sopranos finale (LOL, I know I keep bringing that up): when guests get to the frame and it’s empty. Big letdown.  If you want them to write nice sentiments to you or about you, give them some motivation with your picture!

Mic Check..1..2..1..2–  If you are having an outdoor wedding, get a sound system.   And make sure that your officiant, soloists, etc. can test it out beforehand.  Ask me how I know.

Makeup— If your makeup artist isn’t staying the whole time, be ready for touchups.  Keep it in your bridal purse and easily accessible. You will want it for your intro and all the important photo ops– first dance, dance with dad, cake cutting, etc.

Flip Flops/Slippers— These will soothe your tooties. Even look for a good energizing foot lotion if you want to party all night.

ABCs— Please instruct whoever to put your guests’ place cards in alphabetical order.  Some catering/floor managers will insist that you do it by the table. This is a hassle for your guests and is entirely too cumbersome.  Your guests will be standing around the table trying to find their names…but hey, at least they can easily find the table numbers!  If your catering manager still  needs a little assistance, give him a listing of people per table.

TapeDouble sided tape is your friend.  ‘Nuff said.

Bug spray— ESPECIALLY if you are coming this way in Georgia! The sand gnats are relentless.

Lighters— Sparklers + Lighters= Good time.  Candles + Lighters= Romance.  Take lighters out of the equation, and well, it’s just dull.

Meals for your vendors— Make sure that everything is tied up on this end. Know what is expected of you as the client (does your vendor require a meal in their contract?).  Be sure to relay to the vendor beforehand the type of meal they will be receiving. Some vendors are not a big fan of box lunches.  Let them know so that they can prepare accordingly.

What i’m saying is, Yes, it was my method to read, but I actually thought youd have something interesting to convey. All I hear is a number of whining about something you could fix should you werent too busy searching for attention.
